    Unbeatable bore rust

The only time I have ever had a problem with rust was many, many years ago when I let a guy talk me into using his magic moose milk cleaning concoction which contained Peroxide. Thought I was never going to get that barrel to stop rusting. Needless to say nothing containing Peroxide has ever...

Can anyone ID these two locks

The first one looks like the lock from the first model of the CVA Kentucky and also some early CVA pistols. The second one Looks like the lock on the CVA Mountain Rifle. I believe they were made by Jukar.

    Preference poll: smoothbore or rifled?

Have never really been interested in a smooth bore. Have always been interested in match shooting just never really felt like I would shoot a smooth bore much.

Picked up a pile of "chunks"(or probably not!)

Your friend seems to have had a favorite style rifle. Personally I have had good luck in over the log matches with a .40 caliber and the 1 inch barrel will give it a little weight. Those deep crescent butt plates could be a little rough over the log or off a bench. Flater butt plates seem to...

    riflin

In Thoughts on the Kentucky Rifle in the Golden Age Kindig lists info from Leonard Reedy's journals which covers a period between 1819 to 1837. The number one repair he has listed is Freshen a barrel, 128 listings at $0.50. Number 2 was Steeling a hammer. The early gun barrels were made of iron...

Ok I give up need help on AMS meaning

considering the number of years I shot cross sticks that could apply. Got to be something wrong when you enjoy shooting a 50 & 5X's and all you get is a good smoke award. I really miss that I can't compete anymore.

Ok I give up need help on AMS meaning

Any Metallic Sight. In other words you can pretty much use any sight EXCEPT FOR SCOPES. Adjustable and peep sights would be legal.

    Scammers.............

My favorite is the e-mail I have gotten several times that I have won a 4 wheeler from Lowes. I just need to pay $29.95 in postage and they will ship it to me by USPS and guarantee delivery in 5 days.

    Stock insert...

Don't doubt that it could be done with most all the suggestions given. My thoughts would be that the fore stock is going to look kind of clunky.

When Did the Shotgun Become a Shotgun

Don't know when the term was first used but in Leonard Reedy's journals he lists making a shotgun in 1828 for the outrageous price of $4.42.

Remember this Davy Crockett movie scene?

On Big Foots second shot it sure looks like his hammer is at half cock.

Odd results; bench vs. offhand shooting

You missed my point that when shooting an offhand rifle off a bench you need to set the bench up differently so that you can line up the sights and have your cheek on the stock like when you are shooting offhand. If you look at the post I replied to THAT individual was complaining about having...

Odd results; bench vs. offhand shooting

The sights on a bench rest rifle are a lot higher off the barrel so they don't have to be over the rifle to line up with the sights. With the much lower open sights on an offhand rifle you need to get your rest higher so you don't have to be over the comb to find the sights. I have also found if...

Odd results; bench vs. offhand shooting

If I am shooting an offhand rifle off a bench I set it up so the hold is the same as when shooting it offhand. The rest is going to be where I hold the rifle offhand and it is going to be higher so that my cheek will rest on the stock just like it would if shooting offhand.

    Grandpa stories

I didn't get much time with my grand fathers, both passed when I was very young. I do have one memory of my grand father on dads side. I was probably 5 or 6 years old. I had went with dad to the farm. Dad left me at the house while he went down to the barn. Grandpa decided to teach me how to...

    Kibler side effect?

In my opinion A Pennsylvania style is a rifle made in PENNSYLVANIA and a Kentucky style rifle is one made in KENTUCKY just like an Indiana style would be made in INDIANA. I personally like the Berks county rifles especially the earlier ones. You actually have 6 different areas. there is the...

Angelus black leather dye it is alcohol based so it doesn't raise the grain like Frieberg which is water based.

    Kibler side effect?

Jim Kibler himself posted on this thread that he makes "non customizable kits". That statement reminds me of what Henry Ford said about the Model T," you can have any color you want as long as it is black". That went on to make Ford one of the leading companies in the auto industry. But even...
