I forgot to pack the roundballs - but the substitute worked

My choice was Mountain Dew and grain alcohol. On the motorcycle a bottle of grain and a nearby pop machine made every gas stop a party :thumb:. Somehow we all lived😅

I forgot to pack the roundballs - but the substitute worked

The solid red "Atomic Fireball" I remember from the 50-60s would make a pretty good projectile. Those babies were HOT:eek: and turned white when the red outer coating was gone.

I forgot to pack the roundballs - but the substitute worked

Now if it was solid "sour ball" I might believe it but 30 yards with a hollow jaw breaker is blowing bubbles IMHO. Something to think about trying with the .69 smoothbore next time I get it out.

    Brass frame revolvers

Yeah, Mrs. Whitworth complains the new Victoria's Secret bras aren't as good as the old ones.. 😅

    Wheel weight lead question

That's roughly 1,750 balls for the .75 Brown Bess

    Another loaded one

Went to an auction with brother Steve today and he picked up a nice T/C Hawken. Out in the parking lot he pulls the ramrod and drops in down the barrel to check.....and it's loaded  A year or two ago we were in a local gun shop and he examined a used percussion single shot pistol that had...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

The weather today was beautiful so got the Whitworth out and brother Steve came up with a .50 T/C New Englander and we rang some steel here on the mountain. Tried some paper patched cylindrical bullets I cast and have been meaning to try out for at least 2 years  At 440 grains ahead of 85...

Hard, brittle, and fast PRB for more damage?

It make beautiful bullets and doesn't lead up the barrel even at 2000 fps. During Clinton's anti gun administration I stocked up on supplies and bought a half ton of the stuff for 50 cents a pound, been shooting off that supply for 30+ years and still have enough for the rest of my life.

Hard, brittle, and fast PRB for more damage?

I've never cast a ball hard enough to shatter. The hex bullets I cast for my Whitworth are super hard Linotype and will break and shatter when hitting rocks or thick steel. The interior of the bullet is very grainy and crystalline in appearance. Pure lead is super soft and it doesn't take much...

    Conicals for revolvers

Watched a .45 lead ball in slow motion exit a ballistic dummy skull, you could see it had flattened nicely despite only going not quite 500 FPS from a flintlock pistol. YMMV

    Still reading print media?

Now only NRA's American Shooter, one car owner club magazine, Harley owners mag and Mother Earth News. Growing up pre internet at one time or another I have subscribed to at least 4 car mags, 3 motorcycle mags, 4 gun mags, 2 pilot mags, Time, Newsweek, Air Classics and Hot Rod Magazine. I...

    Rain down the barrel?

Just wet powder. A tight fitting ball with a greased patch should be water tight for a while...........

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

Go to an antique gun show and look at all the cap and ball pistols. Shouldn't there be more examples with an accompanying spare cylinder if it was so common? YMMV

Show N Tell your first MLer rifle

A kit T/C Hawken, belonged to friend who partied himself to death 😢 Serves as a reminder to not do the same.

    Possible gunpowder related tragedy

Glad to hear he's improving. To me a hopper full of smokeless powder isn't nearly as scary as a loading press tube of full of stacked primers. YMMV
