    Square patches

We really need to start a new thread on the obvious advantages of the Hexagonal patch. LOL Some might get all kinds of bent out of shape.

    Square patches

I've been cutting patches this way since the square was invented and have not noticed a problem. I hunt small game with large bore rifles (head shots) and have not noticed a difference in accuracy.

    River Cane Uses

It used to be used as a deterrent or punishment for those who couldn't keep their sticky fingers off others things as well as other crimes.

    My new old rifle

After a good soak, wiggle the nipples back and forth a bit and maybe another soak before turning them completely out. Just a thought, seems to help.

Does lead really wear out rifling by it's passage?

No, but it will sure loose accuracy and improper removal of the lead can eventually wear the barrel.

    Traditions Durability?

Chances are unless YOU do something foolish, you and the next 7 people who have the gun after you will never break the lock. A drop of oil every so often is your friend.

    “Ruined” My First Barrel

Put some lube down the barrel before pulling or forcing out, it will help some. Too many people use to tight of patch ball combination in the first place, in the old days pulling a ball or load was a common everyday practice, they used a slightly undersized ball.

Back up pistol in same caliber?

I've carried a handgun for well over 40 years but decided while deer hunting a large handgun is just one more thing in the way and causing more work when dragging a 200+ field dressed deer out of the woods. The older I get my body agrees more and more.

Traditions Kentucky Stock Studded with Too Many Tacky Tacks.

Could artificially stripe it so it looks like a good grade of maple. I've done this a few times on so-so wood with great results.

New guns inherited. Tell me more

Drop a rod down the barrel just to be sure there not loaded or something down there. Unbelievable how many used muzzleloaders are loaded or partially loaded.

Next time use the tips of toothpicks instead of filler.

Dang your right, guess I better play closer attention. Dang nicest piece of wood to ever appear on a Frontier rifle, at least any I've seen.

Back up pistol in same caliber?

If you have time to fumble around and get a decent shot with your pistol you could be for better done reloading your rifle.

    Home made caps

When it comes to caps linen is always appropriate but wool is nice for wet cold days. LOL

    Mystery lead for round ball?

Cast a few and weigh them, could be the stuff they use for stain glass windows, might be great mixed in with the other lead. hard to say without touching it. Patched it should be fine for plinking.
