    Full cock in stand

No, any sound can make a buck jittery after they've been hunted a bit.

    Full cock in stand

Especially nice when trekking or hunting with a group, you can have your gun on half cock and with the frizzen cover as a additional safety. I like it in the stand so I can have the rifle on full cock especially in thick cove where the deer can appear within feet of you.

    Full cock in stand

After the rut any noise can make a buck disappear. I use a stall over the frizzen.

Need some assitance with my first flintlock choice

If you get interested in trekking or historical reenacting the T?C rifles while very dependable guns are as historically accurate as a Toyota Carrola in a chariot race.

Need some assitance with my first flintlock choice

Go to some local Black Powder shoots-rendezvous or other historical gatherings,. Some very nice used guns on the market. Search for clubs in your area and give them a call and ask around. The minute you buy one of those T/C it will be worth maybe half that at best when you want to sell it.

    Problems with Lee mold

They used to claim their molds were guaranteed, so call them.

    Problems with Lee mold

Try some liquid metal in the screw hole and snug down. Did you try calling them and telling them about the problem, they might very well ship you a new one. You could always order a sizer but think they are most likely fine as they are or try pouring with the lead at a bit lower temp.

    Light loads

Small calibers especially for small game hunting should use light charges. Saves money on powder, less noise. I often use 30grs. of FFG in my .45 longrifle for birds and squirrels.

    Backpacking with longer rifles

Dang deer ticks start in mid march here and up into November, snow doesn't even bother them till it gets a couple inches or very cold.

    Backpacking with longer rifles

Actually pretty good odds here, so many people in this area have come down with Lyme. Old growth forests cut off and replaced with brush and quick growing trees. Earlier posts were talking about sleeping on the ground in a pile of leaves 18th century style. Like sleeping in a nest of ticks...

    Backpacking with longer rifles

A deer tick bite if carrying Lyme can take a person out of the hiking game.

    Ballistol pricing....

I try to do things the traditional way and came across this weird stuff called water. Did some online searches and found people have been cleaning their guns with it for 500 years. Price isn't bad either.

Round ball and 50 grains in a 50 cal. for whitetail ?

Well not many I think have been using a .44 revolver for 60 years but it is too wimpy for humane large deer and not legal I think in most states.

    Flintlock... hunting

Why, are there other options besides a flintlock.

Round ball and 50 grains in a 50 cal. for whitetail ?

And think about how many deer have been shot by wimpy loads and ran off to die or suffer.

Round ball and 50 grains in a 50 cal. for whitetail ?

Some of you don't take into consideration that many of our mid-western deer (where OP said he would be hunting) are half again to twice the size as some of your eastern or southern deer. What works on a dog size deer down south is not always the best bet for a 200lb. western or northern deer...

"Use of shot is not permitted"

Always pays to check first, the good news is if you take up historical trekking or just use your smoothbore as a hiking gun you have a nice defensive load against medium sized critters, two or four legged.

    Shooting all by one’s lonesome

This is one of the times when having many multiple personalities really shines. As long as you all get along with yourself that is.
