What do you hunt with your traditional muzzleloader?

Few deer with my .54, lots of squirrels, grouse, ducks, beaver, porcupines, gophers, with my .45 flint longrifle. Maybe some stray cats and other critters over the 45 years. One of my longrifles is usually loaded to deal with pests and vermin.

    Ramrod for a .40 caliber?

Your rod would fall out whenever you turned fast or pointed the muzzle down. Why not use the 3'8ths as intended.

How much patch lube to use ?

Teach you to ask a question, 30 reply's and 5 answers to your question. Just rub in enough to penetrate the patch, use another patch to wipe off any excess. You want your patches sealed against moisture from the muzzle end but yet not greasy enough to damage the charge if left loaded for weeks.

    Uses for "pine" sap?

I've been debating on trying spruce or pine sap to see if it will help keep a 14 month old grandsons socks and mocs on his feet. lol

    Cleaning Patch Sucker

Have you tried a tighter patch or cutting your own slightly longer patch that grips the jag better. For thorough cleaning one should remove the nipple anyway, or are you speaking of just running a patch through ever so many shots at the range. I would try another nipple if this were the case.

    New Shooter Question on Cleaning

Water, luke warm water, cold water, river water or from a lake, bottle or pump will all work like they've been doing since powder was invented.

    Barrel length question

Very true, I have a 42" and a 47" barrel gun and hunt small and big game in the swampy brushy stuff in Minnesota. It's a learned trick and can be done.

    Barrel length question

Cool, but I'm a traditionalist and a brass rod is kinda heavy for a weekend hunt.

    Barrel length question

Long barreled guns like this handle and carry very nice, much more so than the short abominations. Besides you may gain a tad bit in velocity so you can use light charges and save the hard to get powder. .32 cal. guns have such skinny arse ramrods they are easier to break, I eventually went...

    .36 Caliber Fans?

We should remember as well the a large whiteail buck in Florida is the size of a yearling in northern states. What is a passible caliber in some states shouldn't be used in others.

    .36 Caliber Fans?

I thought that there was very few places where a .36 was legal for deer,

What are your specific offhand shooting exercises if you do any?

Just lifting the gun, aligning the sights and repeating as much as possible. Repetition builds strength and memory.

    Hard times for BP shooters

A good reminder to vote wisely. And to keep plenty on hand when available.

    Well I may have scored

I would like to say that's maybe 15-20 bucks worth given the rust on the tins, hope they work. Just damn sick what stuff is going for now.

Need help with locating some patching material

Three of the six gals that work in our area Jo-Anns never even blinked when I came in there looking for patching, they new what I was up to. The one gal told me her dad used to shoot at rendezvous all the time so she's been through this many times before. lol

Need help with locating some patching material

Did you ask for mattress ticking, seems to me Jo-Annes kept the thicker stuff in a different area. I've also bought "cotton drill cloth" from them before. Maybe check local quilt shops, the gals might know or have scraps.
