If you want a Hawken, just gets some parts and build one. You will end up with a better gun and like it more because you built it.

    lubing patches

I would like to know is it necessary to lube both sides of the patch when using a thick lube like mink oil or just the barrel side. My thinking is you want the ball to grip the patch. I usually use a liquid lube like Mr Flintlock which soaks through.

    WANTED RamRod Puller

I've found if I run a bit of patch lub down the barrel and let the stuck patch soak it up, the ramrod comes out much easier. It's usually the dry patch that gets stuck.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Did some shooting today comparing goex and swiss, 2f and 3f to see what I want for dear hunting this year. Some things that surprised me were 50gr 3f swiss was faster than 65gr 2f goex, the 60gr swiss 3f didn't print that much higher going 141 fps faster than the 50gr swiss 3f, where the goex...

Tumbling cast round balls- process and method

It's hard enough to get the ball in the center of the patch. Then lining up the sprue to point straight up[ is to much for me, I shot swagged balls, so this has possibilities.

Screwdriver for Siler lock top jaw screw

That slot is just to narrow, I recut the slot so a normal screwdriver fits it. Make sure you use a good proper fitting driver in the recut slot, you don't want to bugger it up.

    Shooting to the left

The one I shot today was bent a few times both for elevation and windage, between 25 and 30 shots at a steady quick pace with different powders and charges and it was hot in NJ. They didn't seem to walk, shot 5 5 shot groups and it was very consistent groups for me, only showing movement as to...

    Shooting to the left

Was being facetious, but if your that aneal about those things then bending a barrel to get the sights to do what you want is not that hard and I'm aneal and I've bent them.

Regrets with L and R lock for Traditions?

He also has barrels listed and I have been considering buying a barrel and lock if in fact jim is selling them. His guns are so nice and I've proved to myself that I can build a nice rifle from a plank, so maybe its time to let someone else do most of the hard stuff. Absolutely no shame in...
