    Remember TG&Y?

Our TG&Y never handled sporting goods - it was a "Grandma Store", sewing, quilting, inexpensive goods that ladies enjoyed. Lots of toys and, of course, candy located by the checkout counter where whining children could grab and plead. Christmas items were amazingly gaudy. Lasted many years.

    What's wrong with this doe?

Well, it's not starving. Meat might be really tender. Somebody fill a tag and take some photos.

    stuck nipples

Sometimes, I've had a good one for revolvers (reduced diameter near the opening), but reach into the same drawer for a musket wrench and come up with a soft, easily bent p.o.s. Old Army takes a special, as do others. The company that sells good ones for various sizes will get my money. Gr.r.r.

    stuck nipples

Hadn't really had stuck nipple problems for a few years b/c I hadn't a need until this spring. Three assorted nipple wrenches bit the dust - soft steel deformed with only moderate force. All are old enough that I have no memory of their origin. Who makes good quality nipple wrenches these days ?

    Anyone know what I have?

It can be done (make a whole gun). Won't be cheap nor a one-night project, but parts are available if you wish to search. I'd find all the parts first, then get good advice as to how to go about the process. In the end, your family will have something to enjoy for years to come. Why not?

Hoping for information about a rifle

Well, it's a nice, old, well-worn rifle very typical of what folks used during the 19th (and, in some areas, well into the 20th centuries) every day. The smaller caliber was also common and if it has been freshed out, it still had a lot of "life" left. The front action lock was always a...

    Greetings from southwest MO.

Hello from N.E. Missouri - 20 miles south of Hannibal. Many deer this year in these parts. Have fun and enjoy the many days available to hunt stuff in Missouri. Venison is on the menu.

    Turkey hunting regulations

Part of the reason is hunter safety. Hunters are in camo, generally on the ground shooting at birds on the ground. Single projectiles go further, through brush, and cause more grievous wounds than do birdshot. So, right or wrong, it's a reason to limit legal hunting to birdshot of smaller sizes.

    Hopkins & Allen underhammer pistol.

Caution - been shooting the rifles over 50 years. Be absolutely certain you replace nipples with the exact ones that came with the gun. Easy to strip threads and not every one I've seen had the same one. Great shooting guns with fast, reliable ignition.

Screw on pour spout for Schuetzen plastic bottles?

Caution - from personal experience-storing gunpowder whether black or smokeless in plastic containers other than original may prove disastrous. Many years ago, I was gifted left-over reloading/muzzleloading powders. Some had been poured into assorted plastic containers. Me moved to our farm in...

    Weird Things

Shooting too late, right at dusk, I spilled a small amount of powder while priming the pan on a rifle I'd been working on. Gun fired and so did the spilled powder atop my shooting bench. Maybe a half-teaspoon full, but somehow it seemed like every grain of ffffg ignited as well as the rifle...

What is your choice of shot container for the field?

Like others, I've used various types/things. Really like leather for she shot does not rattle. Pre-measured in various small containers is safe and right handy. My WW2 gas mask bag has finally gotten beyond fixin', but I still grab it sometimes to carry dead critters, trail cams, and snacks.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Found the dreaded rust demon has attacked several guns in one of my safes, so getting busy inspecting and dealing with those affected. Got three done, 24 more to go. WORSE THAN THAT IS POSSUM INVASION ! Thought two tomcats were eating an awful lot. Feed on an elevated spot adjacent to a...

    I've got seven....

Many of us are in the same boat. I enjoy setting up at gunshows to sell my stuff. Luckily we can still sell/ship muzzle loaders most anywhere without the hassle of modern guns. Good luck and I suggest checking current prices to be realistic as to values. Cheers.

    Rain down the barrel?

There are small black rubber muzzle-covering "balloons" (sorta) that fit over your muzzle to keep water out but pose no risk of a bulged barrel supposedly. Never used them, but they would be fine for rifles. Now, shotguns might be another matter, don't know. A shotgun barrel is much more prone...

    Musket stock? Belgian? Identification needed.

"Trade Gun" parts from a time when the revival of muzzle loading brought crude things to full page advertisements in hunting/shooting magazines. This particular item was offered at times as a musket and at others as a "colonial" something. Most old guys well remember the ads. Originally made as...

Do you think that modern ML firearms have any investment value?

Years back, it was challenging to acquire antique/collectible firearms. Travel to shows, paper catalogs, print magazines, networks of similar-minded people were required to find/fix/sell. Kinda like getting a case of beer before you were 21, the process and challenges were exciting and fun. You...

Do you think that modern ML firearms have any investment value?

Junk today is junk tomorrow. "Projects" - missing parts, things messed up by Bubba, and low quality anything are not generally good ...unless you're going to sell for parts. In that case, once an item is out of production, there is money to be made if you are willing to invest the time and...
