    Nice percussion pistol deer kill

I went back and tracked down the ITX round balls the shooter mentioned. Good to know there is a pretty decent substitute for lead if the antis tighten the screws on us. https://tomboboutdoors.com/itx-roundballs/

SOLD CVA Kentucky pistol kit, percussion, 45 caliber

This kit has been stored in garages for some time now but is still eminently buildable. One barrel flat had a patch of light rust --mostly scrubbed off with bronze wool -- and I see some small freckles just inside the muzzle of what is otherwise a shiny, unfired rifled bore. The assembly...

    New Round Ball Bag

Man, I have sanded, edged and applied gum tragacanth then burnished and mine are still discouragingly rough. Perhaps I need more patience in the burnishing process.

    Independence Day 2024 cannon fire

Patriotic way to "repel boarders"!

Wonderful execution. Your beautifully rolled edges make me green with envy! The dogwood flower washers are a very nice touch.

    Nice percussion pistol deer kill

This might have been linked to on here years ago but I found it today pursuing renewed interest in the subject.

    Here's some mischief

Miner, I haven't had that much fun since Dad bought me a carbide cannon for the Fourth of July, 1964. Dear Father in Heaven I was a plague upon the peace of the neighborhood with that thing.😄

    Here's some mischief

Well, what an armful of fun this thing is! I only fired a couple of rounds as the wind was really stiff and I had a heck of a time lighting the fuses, but on the second shot, holding it overhand and aiming instinctively from the waist, I managed to clobber the steel silhouette at about a dozen...

    Hunting with Lyman Plains Pistol

I wonder if, in the intervening year since Ferret Master posted this, he has had a chance to hunt with it. Always seemed really doable as the Plains Pistols had a reputation for accuracy.

    Here's some mischief

One further question: I will fire with round ball at the shooting range, but for back yard noisemaking on the Fourth, will some powder and a tightly packed wad of tow suffice for a nice boom?

    Here's some mischief

Well, I am satisfied with this simple tiller, lightly antiqued and stained, and after roughing up the gonne socket with a Dremel abrasive and smearing with JB Weld I fitted the gonne until a nice bead of epoxy was extruded at the joint. I cleaned it up and the whole shebang is curing for live...

    Reproductions of historical ball bags

Harry, good grief those are lovely mallets! If the manzanita and redwood are local you must be in northern California or southwest Oregon.

Miner, I am hoping to shoot the critter on Thursday, finished or not.

Harry, I am impressed. I had not been aware of Karl Smith's book before this, either. Thanks for sharing your fine workmanship.

    Here's some mischief

Just to follow up, our friend Rudyard did indeed convey Ulrich Bretscher's article as well as his own charming "With Dog and Doglock" and several other estimable articles he wrote and I am now a happier and wiser man for having read them.
