    1983 “Rescued” Lyman GPR .54

Beautiful job. The appearance is as you described it. What did you make the ramrod tip of? It doesn't look like brass to me. If it is your aging worked well. Thanks.

    REN Wax

Rennaisance Wax is wonderful!! I got my first tin at a collector's show, nearly 5 yrs ago,. I'm finally finishing it & need to restock. I use it on gun wood & metal. Never had a problem w/ rust or corrosion w/it. Good pastw wax (except for cars or basic wood wax seems a memory. I recommend...

Did notknow where to go with this and hope this Forum is Appropriate

I'm Still fighting your battle, so I sympathize. Finding a good, contrasting but somewhat neutral background seems to help. Cloudy sun vs. bright sun seems better, as well. I've been tempted to find a skilled photographer & offer to trade instruction in shooting the muzzleloader for a photo...

Afraid I'm a Luddite, when it comes to computers & making my smart phone do what I need it to. Not by accident that I feel comfortable reliving the 18th. (I'd probably not have survived long in it in reality, but it's still fun).

    Lock care

If it's greasy "crud" the above advice is good. If rust, try Evaporust I found mine at Meynards big box construction store) works wonders - w/out harming the metal. It leaves a black coating, but that scrubs away easily.

    Who built this barrel?

1.54 could mean the rate of twist, 1 in 54", or a round ball twist which might also handle conicals fairly well. By comparison, mine has a 1 in 72" twist, which is rifled for round ball. "54" is probably the nominal caliber, but I'd mike the bore to check before buying balls.

    Oops

This really stirs memories. As a teenager, working in a NE museum, I found one of those harpoon guns in a storage room. These pictures verify my memory. It seemed heavy enough to help absorb a lot of recoil, but I couldn't imagine handling it- much less firing it in a bouncing whaleboat. I found...
