    Finally Succumbed

Resistance....is futile. Welcome! They are fantastic kits and incredibly light, well balanced rifles when completed.

    Dixi Gun Works Disappoints.

I bought an 1861 Armi Sport Springfield from them a couple years ago....before they became almost unavailable. The barrel looked like it had water sitting in it for a short time. I immediately cleaned it and the corrosion was only mild surface level and there is no sign of it now but...

    Lead ingot - 99.7 -99.9% pure

How DARE YOU!! One bratty little dingbat right there. She'll end up an overweight, untouched cat lady before she's 40.

1840s Halfstock from a Traditions Kentucky Rifle kit

That's taking an ordinary kit and making an extraordinary result. Bravo! One helluva great way to get rid of that fugly stock mating plate.

What can you tell me about Western Arms

I had brief conversations with Mr. Allen back his store in the late 70's I think it was....corner of Eubank and Montgomery in Albuquerque. Nice man. I wanted to desperately work there if only in exchange towards ANY of the guns he had in stock! Memories. I would not pass up one of the Western...

    Casting Round Balls..............

Somewhat off topic but on the same general theme, I have a Lee .530 RB mold that throws .535 balls. I could not get a ball started into a .54 Colerain barrel on a recent build and could not figure out WTF was going on. (Was at the range, no measuring equipment handy.). Mic'd the balls at home...

    Questions about browning

I go no further than draw filing the barrel then clean (brake cleaner, acetone, whatever). Warm with propane torch and wool dauber on the Plum Brown. It does look streaky and gross initially then as you keep applying, evens out and gets nice and dark. Wipe down with wet cloth and repeat to...

    Kibler order

I'm finishing up a Woodsrunner in standard maple and it has FANTASTIC figure. Jim really undersells his stock grades. A couple of CM4+ stocks I've finished recently from other sources are only modestly more ornate.

Considering trying some 3F in my .54 GPR, anyone out there ever do so?

3F in everything except artillery. Unless someone wants to give me some artillery so I can try it. :)

    Kibler order

If you want a slimmer, lighter rifle, the Woodsrunner is the one AND fully CNC machined. Polish the metalwork, sand, finish.

Laurel Mountain Forge rust browning with humidity box?

Got poor results in a pvc tube with wet rags in it. Torch, Plum Brown and DONE.

Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

Only target shooting for me. Just enough powder to get the ball consistently to the target and no more.
