New flintlock arrived: Signs of frizzen rebound?

I concur that your flint appears to be set up too short. Adjust(or reolace) your flint to hit higher on the frizzen.

    Kibler colonial kit

My Colonial in 58 cal. with a fancy grade maple stock weighs 8.1 pounds.

    Gun Flints

IMO, flint life can be a function of the quality of the lock. With my Silers, L&R’s and more recently my Kibler, I generally expect 30-60 shots per English Black Fllnt(Fuller). I will knap if the flint is not sharp to the touch…until it doesn’t position to my liking in the jaws. .

    Kibler colonial kit

I have built both(also the CVA Kentucky(+40 years ago). The Colonial was MUCH easier! Far less wood to remove! and better fitment! IMO.

Will the bottom fall out of the custom build business?

Perhaps, for some of us…But who knows, and, will it really matter?🤡

    Looking for clarity.

The “States” regulations can vary as far as use for hunting, but by definition it would be, IMO, an “in-line” muzzleloader.

    Finishing questions

I used a single coat of Permalyn Sealer in the “bare wood” lock mortise and barrel channel of my Kibler Colonial. No Aquafortis in these areas. It seals well, and is un-noticeable. I do a lot of hunting in rain/snow. Between that, and the occasional water/solvent that drips into those areas...

    Barrel Wall Thickness

Barrel thickness in SXS doubles, which can vary greatly, is generally a function of the guns total weight, balance, and grade of steel, with proof testing using over-charges being the final word. While intended use(heavy ducks, game birds, etc.) certainly effect the specification, I would...

    Round Ball Shooters...........

I’ve used 45-58 cal LRB’s in deer, most 50 yards or less, furthest 110 yards. I like a 1/3 up, behind the shoulder, shot. A few were dead right there, a rest ran 25-60 yards before dropping.

    Build a Try-Stock

Perhaps not so much with a rifle, where there is a relatively wide latitude for physical sighting adjustments, for wing-shooting/moving game, IMO, a well fitted shotgun is priceless. To extract the full benefit, fitment and shooting form go hand in hand. One of my favorite references which...

    Kibler kits

My two Colonial barrels, and two of my buddies Colonials are all right at the sunset position. Very fast ignition!

    Why only one?

I think this may be the reasoning, along with a few others. When a hunting regulation is set they establish harvest numbers. These are based on the hunting method. More firepower=higher harvest numbers…..This influences season length and game bags. Also, clear and simple regulations are...

    Old Caps

I still have tins of DN caps from the 70’s that work, and, more importantly, fit perfectly on some of my rifles/pistols. They have always been stored/sealed in a cool, dry environment.

Dyeing Deer-Antler Powder Measures with McCormick Food Coloring

Easy to access/carry. I drape the loop connecting the measure to the ball block over my short starter, attached to my possibles bag strap.

Dyeing Deer-Antler Powder Measures with McCormick Food Coloring

I cheat a bit…..Attach my antler measures to my ball blocks. Fast for me, and helps avoid dry balling in the heat if the hunt. I have had good luck staining my antler measures ith oil based stains. My 58, 50, and 45 cal.

Starting Charge Calculation For a New Rifle

My go-to accuracy charge in my 44”, 45 with LRB is 70gr FFFG. Falls right in the charts listed charge ranges… as do my 50, 54, and 58 cal loads.
