    Shooting way left?

Yes I agree about the sights, and I think I will be giving Bobby Hoyt a call to see if he thinks he can correct the problem. Thanks all for your suggestions, and some of the comments.

    Shooting way left?

I am using a Skinner Low Prow Peep sight that only requires one hole to mount. The hole location was carefully measured for centerline of the tang, and the barrel was set up in a drill press and checked for vertical plumb before drilling.

    Shooting way left?

When I bought the rifle i noted that the rear sight on the barrel had the notch located way off to the right up against the ear of the buck horn. I removed the rear sight, measured and drilled and tapped a hole in the center of the tang for the peep sight I installed. Test firing at my range...

    Shooting way left?

Yes it works but is highly impractical.

    Shooting way left?

The original barrel mounted rear sight had the notch on the right side close to the ear of the sight. It is not a problem with the peep sight, as it is centered on the breech plug tang. Holding way right is not an option , and buying another gun is also out. I will look into the methods for...

    Shooting way left?

I have a percussion rifle that has a peep sight centered on the tang that is only adjustable for elevation. In order to get close to the bulls eye at 30 yards the front sight must be very far to the left such that the blade lines up with the edge of the barrel top flat. Even with that location...

How to keep hunting load dry?

I put a small brightly colored party balloon over the muzzle (reminds me the gun is loaded) and an empty .22 short brass case over the nipple. Keeps the water out, easy to flip off when needed, and also acts a s form of a safety.

    .52 cleaning jag?

Why not just take a .54 jag and chuck it in a drill press and run a file along it until you get the diameter you want. If necessary, you can use a triangular file to deepen the grooves of the jag.

    Russ Ham Lock?

I recently purchased a Bedford style percussion rifle that has a Russ Ham lock. Are these locks reliable? It seems to be quite delicate, but functions well. Any info you readers can provide would be appreciated.

    I've screwed up....

The best way to remove the stuck jag & patch is to dribble a few grains of black powder into the drum after removing the nipple. Replace the nipple, cap and fire the jag out at a safe back stop. In the future, only use jags with a steel screw (like those at TOW), the brass threaded screws are...

    Wind and Blackpowder

In real windy weather, or rain, I use a tube of Chapstick to rub along the seem of the pan and frizzen to keep moisture out and to prevent an errant breeze from blowing out the prime.

    Squirrels???

The squirrels are scarce in SE CT. I have been out several times with my .32 flint lock over the past two weeks. I have only seen one squirrel which I was able to stalk and eventually shoot. I have heard only two other squirrels in my outings. I am hunting in places where I usually see...

Pedersoli Back Action Rifle in percussion

Pedersoli made the Tryon in 45, 50 & 54 calibers, and a deluxe version with German silver hardware and lock engraving. Yours is a fine rifle and should give you years of service.

I believe the lock is a L&R, but am not 100% sure. The barrel is straight 1" ATF by Green Mountain, and the touch hole liner is a RMC hex wrench end liner for easy install and removal.
