    Buck vs Doe

I'm in North Carolina, from the mid '60s until about 5 years ago, we owned 3 farms, about 850 acres. We raised corn, peanuts, wheat and soybeans. I have seen over 50 deer in our fields, mostly does. I have killed many, prefer them to eat. The only way to control the population when it gets that...

    Homemade "Bore Butter"

Look up how to make Moose Snot, pretty simple to make. I went to using SnoSeal years ago.

    Gap in patchbox

Of course there is a gap there, leave it alone...Wood can swell and patchboxes can stick, there needs to be a gap there. Seal the underside and the inside of the box to help reduce swelling. I would also notch the lid to make it easier to remove. This is also why brass patch boxes evolved.

    Ball size question.

I would suggest first buying .530 balls and seeing if they group, if not, go for .535 or .526, depending upon how tight the .530s are. Find what size that gun prefers, then buy a mold.

    Possibles bag, hard or soft?

Look at the Lewis & Clark journals...They called it a shot pouch...

    Possibles bag, hard or soft?

Are you talking about a canvas bag (haversack) used as a carry all or the leather shot pouch used to carry what you need to reload your rifle?

    Virginia smooth rifle

A couple of observations, prior to the Revolution, very few barrels or locks were made in Colonial America...Barrels came from both the Germanic areas as well as England, we know this from the records that the Moravians kept...If the gunsmith wanted a rifled barrel, they were rifled here, in...

    About your hunting rifles

I built this one in the late '80s, it took me over 2 years and 200 hours to finish..It is a .54 caliber with set triggers...I retired it last year when I finished my .54 caliber Woodsrunner...I also have a Bob Watts flintlock in .40 caliber that I bought in 1977, it's used for squirrels, head...

After you load, remove the nipple and see if you have powder there.

    KIBLER WOODRUNNER TALL SITE

With the original front sight, most shot about 8 inches low at 50 yards, Jim came out with a taller rear sight to remedy this. I left mine alone, just filed down the front sight so it hits about an inch high at 50 yards.

    Vent hole location?

Shoot it before changing. Looks can be deceiving. I would have tried it with powder in the pan before buying.

    Why a Fowler

Sounds like you need a Woodsrunner in .54 and a Fowler...I got mine in 16 gauge as I already have two .54 caliber rifles and a .40..
