    Schuetzen powder?

I have been shooting Graff's fffg by Wano ( Scheutzen ) for the last few years and it has performed well in both my Lyman GPR 54 and my "Cap and Ball" pistols. I was able to find a pound of GOEX a while back but haven't tried it yet. I don't have any experience with any other black powder but...

proper powder load for 54 cal?

I had very good luck over the years with my Thompson Renegade 54 using 110grs of Pyrodex RS and a standard Thompson Maxi ball which as I recall is 430 grains. Today I use FFFG black powder ( usually Graff) . The maxiball kills with authority and is ideal for a thompson rifle. I have shot some...

    Just ordered some Graff fffg

Well when I got back in to muzzle loading in 2017 I started with Graff fffg cause I wasn't sure what I really needed. Earlier in my hunting career I used a TC renegade ,maxi balls ,and Pyrodex RS .This time around I was looking for a more traditional experience. So I bought a Lyman GPR 54 ...

    Broke my leg

Well I had all next week scheduled for deer hunting with my son and fell down the attic stairs Monday night and fractured my Tibia. I'm am now in a full leg splint which immobilizes my entire left leg and unable to walk. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any at all. My son wants to...

    New to Goex

I've never hunted elk , however wild pigs are everywhere. Most I encounter are 300+ pounds . I find 110grs to be very accurate in my gun. Regarding a trail of black residue in the snow I wouldn't know cause we rarely have any.

    New to Goex

I have a Lyman GPR 54 (1 in 60" twist). I can just barely load two shots without swabing . So I swab between each shot. I swab with 70% Isopropyl alcohol. This gun only has about 75 rounds through it. I am hoping that this will improve. Currently I am loading a Hornaday .530 ball, .015" patch ...

One Long Gun And One Handgun

For me when I'm walking around in the hills with my traditional gear it is a Lyman GPR 54 percussion and a Pietta 1858 Remington . I have a brand new Uberti 1860 Colt Army but I have never shot it. Seems like I always grab the Remington.

Lyman GPR did Lyman get out of the business?

I have a 54 percussion and decided to get a flint . I got on thier website and nothing is shown. What happened? Looks like Investarms is keeping the GPR alive with the Gimmer Rifle but you can't find one.

    round balls don't do well

I have a Lyman GPR in 54 with a 1 in 60" twist I get 2" groups at 50 yards when I do my part. That's about what I expect. Hornaday Swaged .530 ball 110 grs Graff fffg .015 cotton patch Lubed with TOW Mink Oil Rem or Cci cap I bought this gun to hunt at close range in the thick woods of West...

    Invest Arms Gemmer Kit

I am considering buying one of these kits in a Flintlock in 54 Caliber . I currently have the Lyman GPR percussion Version. I have 2 questions: 1. I hate the fishbelly stock and I would like to get rid of that if I do the build . Is there enough wood here to do this . This would probably...

    mink oil from TOTW

Sturmkatze I don't care what people say . However in this case I ask if people were having problems with Bore Butter and Wonder Lube and got some very interesting answers that seemed reasonable. Since I am always trying to make my experience better I took their advice . Besides I am always...

    Shooting all by one’s lonesome

I live near Memphis TN and none of my buddies shoot or hunt with traditional Muzzleloaders . Me and my LYMAN GPR are always alone . I am a member of the Midsouth Sports Shooting Association ( a gun club near Memphis) and I shoot there regularly. They have a monthly shoot but I have never made...

    mink oil from TOTW

I bought some TOW mink oil about a year ago and just shot it for the first time about a month ago. It shot about the same as TC Bore Butter and Wonder Lube do in my Lyman 54 GPR ball shooter. I am getting away from TC bore butter and wonder lube because of the negative posts on this forum...

    GPR vs Mountain Rifle

I bought the GPR 54 about 6 years ago new . Good solid choice. If you've found a used one in good shape you should get good service out of it

    Shooting Yesterday

Yes that is Mink Oil . I have always used Bore Butter but decided to give Mink Oil a try. The crud in the bore seems to be a little easier to remove than with Bore Butter. I am going to try Crisco and Olive oil as well. I read on this site somewhere that Bore Butter is actually Petroleum based...
