    Dangers of Touch Hole Picks

Well considering how trigger happy the SWAT teams and police are today, if an event like that happened at a range people would have very likely been shot. It is something of a miracle that the police haven’t shot innocent families with the Swatting incidents that are happening all over.

    Dangers of Touch Hole Picks

Well I was at our local indoor range and had just finished shooting when someone shot the sprinkler system. That set off the alarms and caused the sprinklers to spray down the range. It shut the store down too. They cannot turn it off until the fire department checks it out first. That was a...

    Darrenger

Nice job. It turned out really well too. Since he made it entirely from scratch he can call it a Darrenger all he wants to.

Lengthening forcing cone to reduce cylinder gap, in revolver with integral barrel.

If it has a fair amount of endshake with the cylinder and frame, you could get it machined for a spacer to move the cylinder forward more. I have seen that done with cap and ball revolvers before, mostly the brass frame ones but steel too.

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

I will vote for that the victor likely poured something caustic down the bore to ruin it. Thus it would not be useable against them later. It would be way too much effort to try and demilitarize the things as they made lots of them. Thst then leads to the fact that they had a large industry...

    Gun show cannon

Yeah I am inclined to lean towards it being a Dixie Gun Works reproduction too.

    Gun show cannon

Yes in a fresh water lake it is quite possible. Especially if there is an oxygen depletion zone on the bottom. But getting buried under the mud on the bottom can still leave it looking pristine when found.

Built a serious gun safe! Bank Vault

Nice find and a nice safe. That should slow the criminals down some.

    Your Flintlock History

I go way back as I got my first ML smoothbore at a gun store in the small town nearby. It is a .40 cal caplock. Cheaply made in Brazil. That was circa about 1966 when I was about 16 yoa. I remember tying a rope to it as a sling so I could carry it home on my motorcycle at the time. I used it...

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

That is a fascinating story about that narrow spot in the barrel. But mine isn’t loaded you can push the rod all the way past it. You just don’t notice it unless you have a patch on the rod. But that may be what is there on mine though. It has been a long time since I actually looked at it...

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

Well while mine looks good. To tell the truth, the barrel is pretty much useless. The bore is really totally shot. It is all very rough for its entire length. I think that when they hammered out the barrel on a mandrel they never finish bored it. Plus it may have been bent and then straightened...

Oh dear, this is not MY Canada......

There are quite a few schools in the USA with a total zero tolerance for anything even resembling a gun. Many schools banned ROTC as well as recruiters from their campuses as well. They expel students for even having pictures or drawings of guns too. I remember one student got expelled for...

    Indian muskets

Well that is a relief. I thought the Germans had gone wild there for a bit.

Oh dear, this is not MY Canada......

Unfortunately they would be doing the same thing here in the USA too. Takes matchlock to a school and get the same overreaction. Maybe even worse they shoot you first and then ask questions.

    Indian muskets

Wow! That is some serious proofing that they do. A load like that sounds more like they are deliberately trying to blow the thing up not proof it.

    Simple matchlock

I think that the longer arm on the serpentine makes sense as you have a short arm on the clamp for the match cord but a long arm that you pull back on. Thus it makes it faster to pull and fire the gun. The guys back then knew about all of that fulcrum like stuff too.

Shot the Philly Derringer today to check penetration.

I think it’s really a comment about the replicas are stronger and made with much better steel alloys than what they used in the past. Many guns back then used cast iron. There would be flaws in the metal that can cause them to fail. Steel was much harder to get and more expensive way back then.
