Ball calibers and diameters make no sense.

It was bore diameter of the barrel not the bullet diameters at first. 0r they used the actual bullet diameter in some cases too. But over time marketing and advertising got involved. Plus in a few cases the actual bore size changed as things became more modernized too. The Colt .45 for example...

Source for .69 Minie bullets for my Remington rifle musket

Yeah, you definitely didn’t want to be shot with one of those .69 minis. I shoot them out off my .69 flintlock pistol occasionally too. You definitely get some recoil with it. Not a lot of muzzle velocity but a lot of stopping power. Those Lyman minus weigh upwards of 750 grains. But you can go...

I have a box of free bee bees

Those would be legal in those states and Federal areas where lead shot is illegal. Unless whst your hunting requires smaller shot. I would just use the plastic shot cups if you are worried about damaging the bore. The shot cups help a lot with the shot pattern too.

    Cataract Surgury and Shooting

Yes Medicare covers the single lense type of lenses. It makes it ver affordable. The eye doctor at their surgicare center has a fancy laser machine that does take care of the astigmatism too. But it costs extra. I did not opt for the fancy multi focal lenses as I know some guys that had problems...

    Cataract Surgury and Shooting

I had the surgery done at the beginning of the pandemic. One eye in December and the other in January. It went really well too. I got the monofocal lenses for distance seeing. The difference is like night and day. Now it did take about a year for my eyes to really settle down after the surgery...

    The best non BP choice

Actually it is whatever you can get. 777 works fine as do the other BP propellant substitutes. BH209 is arguably the best but it is very expensive though.

Pyrodex vs. Black Power & Law

Well several years ago a number of guys who had been convicted of a felony used the Texas law loophole to carry loaded cap and ball pistols. But a number of them got into trouble though with the police by sticking their noses in where they didn’t belong. But these guys have’nt been in the news...

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

If the hackers can already intercept emails then breaking it up won’t work either. St first it was a good idea but hackers quickly rendered it moot. Some credit card companies offer a single use credit card number method. You install their special app into your browser. Then when you go to buy...

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

Amazingly enough the only people who are free are the homeless ones living on the streets. No money, no bank accounts, no taxes, etc. Granted your life expectancy is a lot less though. But that has been steadily declining anyway. Thst dreaded number is already here. They just haven’t embedded a...

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

Yes that is true. But worse is that unless that bank has a lot of powerful leftist political elites as customers then you lose your money in it too. The bank the Feds saved had a lot of political elite customers and they gave them all of their money back not just up to the maximum $400,000.

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

The banks have to watch for people using structured transactions as it might be someone trying to get around that minimum amount rule. Then they report those transactions to the Feds. The Feds invariably will seize your bank account and it could take you years and untold amounts of lawyer fees...

can't pay with a check, so goodbye to this board.

Well checks are getting expensive. My bank wants 80 cents US per check now when you need more. Plus you have to pay for expensive FedEx shipping on top of that too. I hate to think what a money order costs anymore to get. The world is quietly forcing everyone to using electronic means. But...

    why get a smoothbore?

Well once you figure it out, you can shoot out to 50 yards and even 100 yards and still keep it on target. Plus the versatility of being able to shoot bullets, buck and or shot. You can even use shot cups to tighten up the shot groups too. I seldom need to shoot beyond 25 yards or so thus a...

Did I make a mistake? or Is there a misconception about smoking molds?

I have done it both with and without smoking the molds. Whatever works for you is good as far as I am concerned.

    Cannot find Black Powder

If you are not using a flintlock then Pyrodex or 777 will work for you. BP may be the gold standard but it is hard to get everywhere. A lot of stores won’t stock BP in house anymore due to insurance requirements.

    New Oldstock Goex pistol powder

Black powder kept dry is good for pretty much forever or longer. That is one reason you have to always double check old antique guns to make sure that the guns are unloaded. Yes people have accidentally fired off 150 year old guns that were still loaded long ago.

Oops... bought a non firing Replica

When I bought my example something like 50 years ago only the frizzen was not hardened. I got it case hardened. But it is only a thin layer and wears off after so many shots. Thus I have to refresh it from time to time. I did get another frizzen from Dixie Gun Works but I never got around to...
