How does the nipple hold up with that load? Mfg?

100 yard accuracy difference between smoothbore and rifle?

There’s a good reason Smoothbores use Rifle targets at 1/2 the distance.

    Slug Rifle Projectiles

If those are 977gr - they must be around 58cal? They appear to be just over 3 bore diameters in length..

1815 Newspaper Ad announcing the Percussion Cap

This announced their location move. I believe, Forsyth patent was in 1807. There was quite a bit of competition between pill, tube and cap lock. John Manton stayed with the flint until finally gave way to the cap lock in 1825.

    1850? Scott and son shotgun

Not necessary an American retailer… The Scott&Son looks somewhat generic and there’s no address on the bbls / makes me think a retailer. Enjoy the piece.

    1850? Scott and son shotgun

I’ll add: made for export for Scott & Son. They were probably a retailer, not the maker.

    Watch this space

A little different than a Lancaster I saw, years ago. Cool, short, period of arm’s development. Congrats

    Gauge/Bore Conversion Table

I did one mathematically years ago. As it gets smaller (bores) they don’t come out as on the original arms. Original Ex.: 25 bore -.577” 52 bore - .451” 105 bore - .360”

    Information on this old gun.

Under rib looks loose as well toward the breechplug as evidence of a soft solder glob. They probably are not solid anymore: Caution. Birmingham proof marks. Mid-late 19th Century. No makers name usually indicates lower quality and possibly made for export..

    Wilkinson Double Rifle .58

Very nice piece! I hope you still shoot it? Curious as to the rifling type? Wilkerson Sword is Henry Wilkerson who join his dad James - who was left all of Joseph Egg estate. Cool history. Thanks for sharing.

    Mike Beliveau needs our help!

Too bad.. hope he’s considering a move to a gun friendly state. He once stated he does YouTube to supplement his retirement income.. turned me off. Regardless, from a 2nd Amendment standpoint, I hope he prevails.

    Proof Hawken made a flint

Christian Hawken (father of Jake, Sam, William, etc.) and his brothers immigrated from Switzerland. Family total was about 15 gunmakers, Pennsylvania longrifles styles.. Jake & Sam made a Special 69cal Hawken for Wm Ashley on his 2nd trip westward - assumed to be a flint. 1/2 stock rifles...

Will the bottom fall out of the custom build business?

A good original will always be where the $$$ is. A kit will always be a kit. Custom gunmakers today are not different than gunmakers of the day - some better than others..

    NMLRA 3-Year Memberships

You seem to sing the same tune everywhere on social media the past few years.. You’re everywhere west coast and the NMLRA is nowhere. From this months Muzzle Blast Magazine - they’re under your nose. Pretty sure Sacramento is in Northern California - as you say - the hotbed of ML Idaho too.
