Cast some pure lead cores to make bullets from for the slug rifle match this weekend at the club in Canal Fulton OH.

This evening I will swage them to final shape where they will end up weighing 977 grains each.

They finished up and worked well. Won the 40 Rod match: 10 shots at 220 yards, scored 100 7X. Both sides of the target shown and the rifle I used.

I never chronographed it, just did what I could to get the rifle to perform as it did in the 1880's.

In the NE US at that time large sums of money were often wagered on shooting matches, sometimes in the thousand of dollars, often in gold.

This rifle was built to win money, and in the hands of the original owner it did. Today I enjoy it when I can and use the same means to load and fire it that were used 138 years ago.

This was taken last July. A good bit of recoil, the stock was designed in such a way that it pushes you but does not hurt. I just hang on and roll with it...

It's the best. Folks like to talk and postulate about how things were; I like to try it for myself. Shooting the old guns is awesome and if proper care in their use and maintenance is exercised they are not harmed.
