    Wiping between shots

swabing between shots seems to help some guns more then others. my pedersoli long rifle will not function if you swab the barrel. ive found using a lubed wad in edition to patching allows me to shoot without swabing this gun. now my Jaeger rifle seems work shoot great whether i swab or not. i...

    Free Cannon

as said in the qoute, its not the price of the gun that gets you its the carriage and supplies that break the bank. every now and then i look at this just to dream: http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_106_665&products_id=1653 but the price tag has never failed to keep me...

    affordable matchlock

as i said in my last post, even if the rifle shoppe could be trusted. the price of the kit plus the cost of paying someone to build it would be beyond my comfortable means for at least the next year or two. i will revisit the more spendy guns again in 2014 if my job looks stable by then. for...

    affordable matchlock

if life really worked that way, id settle for good and cheap with a long wait. from the many many stories ive read about the rifle shoppe isnt any of those. i dont mind waiting if i know the outcome will be good. the rifle shoppe has a reputation for leaving out parts or sending broken parts...

    affordable matchlock

i know the price is low but its the best i can do. i may just end up buying the india made gun from Veteran arms. okawbow, i love the first kit on their list (527). but im not willing to wait two years just to get a kit thats either missing parts or in poor condition. the rifle shoppe has a...

    affordable matchlock

any one know a builder who turns out matchlocks for under $1000? id really like a 75 cal matchlock built in a similer style to the india made gun offered by veteran arms but i would like a better quality barrel and the forstock to be a little smore slender. under normal conditions id suck it...

    20ga Percussion Fowler

dont compare a rifle to a smooth bore. its apples and oranges, they just dont shoot the same. a smooth bore can be very accurate but you need to learn to shoot them. as for a caplock fowler, why? that just doesnt make sense. if you are thinking about a flinter in the future then i recomend you...

4F in a pedersoli screw pistol

went to the range today with my Jaeger so i took the little screw pistol along with me. i loaded the little pistol out of the same priming flask i use for my Jaeger. 4f is a little more snappy then 3f but nothing major. either way the pistol isnt easy to hold on to. i actually spent a little...

    the Lyman bullet dipper (ladle)

for the longest time i used a Lee bullet dipper/ladle for my casting and avoided the Lyman due to high cost. well let me tell you this: if your on the fence about getting a Lyman bullet dipper (ladle), buy it. i recently ruined a Lee lead pot (i was stupid) so i went to the local cabelas to...

    What is a "swamped" barrel?

a strait barrel will be muzzle heavy. this will make the barrel hang on target a little better. if i was shooting long range for big money i would use a small caliber with a strait barrel. now for hunting... ill take a swamped barrel over a strait barrel any day. my 50 cal longrifle has a strait...

    58 cal lyman mold trouble

ok finally got this mold sorted out! spent just under 2 hours casting which yielded 74 serviceable balls. the balls measure in at .570 x .572 +/- .001. they weigh in between 275 and 277 grains with the average being around 275.7. i culled any that weighed under 275.0 or had major surface flaws...

Any BP powder restrictions in NY?

seeing as your vote isnt going to change the laws. how do you propose to fight? i ask because my state isnt far behind and im sure in the near future this place will be like NY. as far as im concerned the onley way to have rights is to move to a state where a majority of people arent willing...

    What is a "swamped" barrel?

a good swamped barrel is a thing of beauty. it also gives the gun a balance not achievable by a strait barrel. my Jaeger rifle has a 58 cal swamped barrel made by Rice barrels. -matt
