    New Roach Belly

Looks perfect, sheath and all. I've been watching for one of your roach belly's to show up in the classified. The last knife I bought from you has probably field dressed and skinned at least 20 deer! (Crop damage tags) Put me down for one of those new knives!

    The powder ran out first...

That's some fine shooting Brit and a fine pile of meat. We don't hunt pigeon on purpose, but on a slow goose morning .....boys will be boys.

    Smoothbore wadding ...

That's a score! I collect them in the summer, before daylight on cool mornings. Just quietly slide a trash bag over the nest and squeeze the top closed tight. Put a zip tie on it and throw it in the freezer. After a couple days I separate the good stuff and the chickens clean up the rest. I get...

    Patch Box?

I use patch boxes to hold a cleaning jag, ball puller and a few cleaning patches for field maintenance. I have a buddy who's patch box is filled with pipe tobacco and a small lighter. According to him this is survival rations.

    Trouble getting new fowler clean

You're probably just getting some lead on your patches. I make sure the powder fouling is gone and neutralized and coat it with bear oil or barricade. 40+ years of doing it that way and never a problem. You can always get more grey out, it's just lead. Have fun with it.

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

I used the pipe to get disconnected from a 37 year Copenhagen addiction. On deployments we lived on caffeine and nicotine! I have an old Peterson pipe and a few Missouri cobs. My favorite tobacco is a tie between Durbar and Samuel Gawith 1792 flake, both almost impossible to get now. I actually...

    Kibler Colonial first one

That's a fantastic looking rifle! I love the finish on that wood. Awesome job. I always leave a blemish in the wood, on the brass, barrel. Sometimes a stray scratch, gouge or file mark. I tell people it's to add character, wonder of anyone ever believes me? They always look perfect to me. And...

    Preventing bore rust

Lots of good advice. I mostly use bear oil, because I am lucky enough to have it. Back in the 80s used bore butter and always got some brown on the patches after storage. I believe it's just the oxidized bore butter, never had any rust and a with couple dry patches it was gone.

Kibler fowler, a couple of photos,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That looks like a great kit. I can't wait to get one for myself. I was an R&R guy before I was a builder. Transmissions are way different than Long rifles and I've been happy with my kibler kits.

    Eye injuries from flintlock?

I've been cut on the cheeks and arms by pieces of percussion caps back in the day. I have only had flintlocks for the past 30 years or so. I've never had a problem with a flintlock, knock on wood. I mostly shoot lefty and no issues with RH or LH guns. I do wear prescription glasses and probably...

    Kicks like a MULE

What grade of powder are you using? I have a .62 fusil that will beat the snot out of you with round ball over 110 grains of FFFg. If I load with 125 grains of FFg I get same velocity and less felt recoil (to me anyways). Both loads are accurate so I use the FFg.

    Too nice to shoot.

The only stock I have is the kind that moo and ruin the planet with their farts. I had to cash out my retirement savings between getting medically retired and VA disability kicking in, got hungry. All of that said, no gun is too nice to shoot. I've stumbled on several brand new collection worthy...

    First ever hunt

Stay after it. Some of my best bucks were taken in the rain. Patina that starts as rust from hunting in the rain is worth more than the best finish you can buy!

Considering trying some 3F in my .54 GPR, anyone out there ever do so?

My slow twist gpr in .54 shot very well with .530 ball, .015" patch and 85gr of FFFg goex. However it shot excellent if I used the same components and 100gr of FFg goex. Either one was whitetail accurate, but the FFg just a bit tighter groups.

How you fill your pan makes no difference ...

I used to prime with FFFFg and try to use an exact amount, placed perfectly in the pan. Now I just pour some out of the horn into (sometimes around) the pan. Fg and finer, whatever is in the horn and have still been filling all my tags and knocking paint off all the targets. Way simpler
