    July Postal Match

I'm finally getting around to posting my results from last weekend's range day. I usually shoot from a bench so this was a fun challenge for me. First time participating in the postal match here. Rifle Target: 25yds, Off Hand, score 35 .36 cal flintlock Kibler SMR .350 cast RB .020 patch with...

    Introduction

I'm in the Dallas area and wouldn't mind teaching you how to safely operate your 1860. There's some other gear you'll need like powder, ball and caps before you can get it running though.

New Gun: Am I Doing Something Wrong?

I'd send it back for a refund personally. The maker clearly didn't correct top jaw screw issue and then sent it right back to you. The screw is also too long to be functional from what I can tell. It looks like it will bottom out before it fully tightens down on the flint. As for the half cock...

    My Kibler SMR Build Log

I would definitely recommend it. I was able to build one as a somewhat novice and in the end had a beautiful and very high end rifle. Just watch the build videos a few times (wasn't a problem for me since I was so excited while waiting for the delivery) and pay close attention to them.

How many shots before a frizzen needs to be replaced?

How many shots can a flint lock take before the frizzen needs to be replaced or rehardened? I've never fired one enough for it to be a problem, but I've probably put 2k rounds through my Kibler SMR and am curious how long it will realistically last. My lock still functions flawlessly and sparks...

    Double barrel question

I have a Pedersoli 12ga SxS and I had the same concern when I first got it. The way I checked is I loaded up my standard load then fired one barrel. Then I checked the other unfired barrel by slowly lowering the ramrod back down onto the charge. If it didn't let me reseat it at all, it was still...

    Flint lock sights...

I've never been a fan of pedersoli sights on their stock guns. They always look blocky and out of place to me. I don't have any good pictures on hand, but I swapped out the sights on my Pedersoli Kentucky pistol when I was building it with some sights from Track of the Wolf and I think they are...

    Ordered a uberti navy

My favorite load is 15 grains 3fg, a lubed wool was and the bullet on top. It shoots about as accurate as a round ball, which is pretty good. The bullet definitely hits harder

    Ordered a uberti navy

My Uberti 1851 .36 loads the Eras Gone bullets pretty easily without any modifications needed for what it's worth.

Things said that make me want to shoot alone

I so wish there was public land near me to shoot on. Unfortunately 95% of all land in Texas is privately owned. The only gun club I know near me has a whopping $10,000 initiation fee.... guess I'll stick to public ranges.

    Brown Bess buckshot loads

I've fired 9 .31" round balls out of my .69 M1816 with 80 grains 2fg and it's worked well. Make sure you only load what is safe in your gun though

It finally happened with my 1851

For a while now I've read that bolt/trigger springs on the Italian cap and ball revolvers were "consumables" and break fairly often. Some claims I've read even say theirs break every couple hundred shots. I thought this was all BS, but after roughly 2.5k rounds through my Uberti the bolt spring...

    Ordered Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle

I wouldn't worry so much about reducing your screw heads. Always do the most work on the least expensive part is a good saying to follow. For the butt plate screws you really don't have to reduce them much and once they're screwed in you probably won't ever take them out again. So any minor...

Next Long Arm to Round Out the Collection

I'd recommend a Springfield model 1816 if you don't already have one. It was the most produced American flintlock musket and was made all the way up to the introduction of the M1842. Most surviving examples were converted to percussion by a few different arsenals and there's a cool bit of...

Most accurate flintlock rifle you own

Like most people, it's my Kibler SMR. Mine is 36 cal and can cloverleaf 5 shots at 50 yards from a bench using a .350" RB, a .020" oiled patch, 30 grains 3F and with wiping between every shot. Unfortunately I can't seem to hit anything at 100 yards with it.

Any front stuffers here in the Dallas area? I'd love to join a club or go shooting with other enthusiasts, but haven't been able to find any.

    New from Dallas

Hello all from the concrete jungle that is Dallas, TX. I've been muzzleloading for a few years and shoot muzzleloaders almost exclusively. I'm a younger guy in this hobby and don't really know anyone else that shares my hobby so I'm happy to joint the online community of muzzleloaders. Here are...

    Older Pedersoli Hammer Issue

You could try loosening the bridle screws just a bit. It's possible the previous owner over tightened them
