Shooting a flintlock for the first time ever today

Rifle looks great! Sorry if I missed something but what are you using the Unique for? I could be totally wrong but I thought they only made smokeless powder. I just wanted to be safer rather than sorry! (and not ask).

    New in New Hampshire

Welcome from CT! You came to the right place. Almost everything I have learned about flintlocks over the last couple of years has been from the fine folks here.

    Powder 3f or 2f

I have used both in a 20. I don't have anything smaller than a .54 now, but I am 2f across the boards. One of my guns "likes" 3f for priming so it gets 2f down the pipe and 3f in the pan.

What got you interested in flintlocks?

Where are some of these shoots if you don't mind me asking? I was excited to finally attend a muzzleloader shoot in Vermont back a few months ago, but Murphys law, something came up the literal night before that prevented me from going. I would love to shoot around different parts of New England...

What got you interested in flintlocks?

All it took was seeing Last of the Mohicans once. It was my senior year of high school so I was around 18. I started looking at pedersolis that night, and later that year was lucky enough to buy this pretty left handed 50 cal from an older gent. He was the builder and it was nicely made. I can't...

    Stupid Question

I have always wondered if putting a little bit of ballistol on it would help? With the friction maybe? I have considered trying it on one of my wooden cleaning rods, but now that I have nicer ones with muzzle guards I haven't gotten around to fiddling with it.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

Air warfare is some of my favorite stuff. I love when the author makes you feel like you are there in the cockpit. I read “race of aces” last year about Dick Bong and it was awesome. I think I need to come up with a Tenngun reading list! We seem to like a lot of the same stuff

What kind of stuff do you all read?

I just re-read the Fellowship of the Ring. Tolkien really was a true master of words

What kind of stuff do you all read?

You made my day! I am going to search for a copy tonight. My best friend from high school is an officer on one of our nuclear subs so it has given me an appreciation for all of this stuff. Glad to hear the movie did a good job.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

I didn't even realize Das Boot was a book. Is it any good? I love the movie.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

I usually read historical stuff but there are a few novels I love. I love Lonesome Dove by McMurtry and The Stand by Stephen King. Just finished Shelby's civil war trilogy. I think my favorite thing I have read in a while was David Mccullough's "1776". I really liked him as a historian. I...

    Modern muzzleloading-locktime speed?

The Chambers colonial lock on my New England fowler, built by one of our friends here, is so fast it astounds me. I swear some times it feels like a centerfire. My other locks are really nice but nothing touches that one.
