Kibler has announced a Hawken Kit in the works.

No way in hell will I be jumping on the Kibler Hawken wagon. I have five kits to assemble right now. I need another like a hole in the head. Before I get hooked on Kiblers I'm going cold turkey. Just writing about it now gives me the shakes. Maybe I need therapy.

    Kibler hawken

Jim Kibler himself said Monday he has begun working on a Hawken rifle kit. If you can find his thread I'll give you a smiley face emoji.

    1795 musket kit

Has any one here assembled a Pedersolli 1795 Springfield musket kit? I'd like to know your opinion of them.

    Which rasps

The Liogier are tops. Each on is made to order by hand. Yours is similar to others, but not an exact duplicate. In small ways, yours will be one of a kind. Mine are almost too nice to use, like maybe they should be hanging on the wall. If you're willing to shop on line you'll find many options...

    Fitting stock to shooter

Now I'm smiling. I FOUND IT! https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=20014.msg189215#msg189215 I had to dive so deep to find it I almost ran out of breath. I do think stock fit is relevant. I have two modern rifles I can shoulder with eyes closed, and when I open my eyes the...

    MUZZLELOADING BUILDERS SUPPLY

An order from MBS arrived here yesterday. It shipped promptly. I was able to find two items there I couldn't find anywhere else.

    Fitting stock to shooter

Recently I saw somewhere online a post relating how to take measurements of a shooter and convert that into stock dimensions. As I recall five measurements are taken from the shooter, and these converted to length of pull, cast-off and so on. I can't find that post on any forum now and I need...

Recommendations for a first flintlock rifle

If you plan to do much prone shooting you should eliminate the American Longrifle from your list. The butt stock design works well for offhand shooting but is a poor design for prone shooting. SMRs are like pickle forks. Fire one prone and you'll learn how a gerkin feels.

    Lewis & Clark Expedition Rifles

There's a bit of discussion of L&C rifles here. https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/1792-contract-rifle-in-original-flintlock.134359/ In my opinion the rifles in the Great War link are fantasy pieces designed to fit some preconceived notions, and not based on really thorough research.

    Sun Bathing Cherry

Osage Orange is photosensitive, too. I have a couple of Osage bow staves that were only out in sunlight when I split the log. That was close to 30-years ago. They have oxidized into a very nice brown shade. I assume cherry will oxidize as does Osage. I'm preparing an experiment with cherry...

    My Kibler SMR Build Log

Man, are you off your lithium or what? All this self aggranding e-gabbing says delusion rather than clear thinking. That's why I believe your $10,525 "build" will likely be an assembly worth $500 when done. Your challenge went as wild as Dr Fauci's pitch. I have two Kibler SMR kits to assemble...

    My Kibler SMR Build Log

I withdrew $500 cash from my bank account today. Should I hang onto it and buy this rifle when done? It would be a way to get a genuine Kibler at below market prices, a real penny pincher's delight.

    Why Kibler

Kibler locks are probably the best available today. As I recall the price of a Kibler lock alone is $300, quite a bit more than the most common locks. Higher prices don't necessarily mean higher quality, however high quality definitely justifies a higher price. I belive nearly all Kibler lock...

    Expedient sapling ramrod works fine

It's been a long timesince reading it, but as I recall it was in Commerce of the Prairie, there was specific mention that traders bound for Santa Fe stopped at Council Grove to make a supply of ramrods.. There is oak there (like the Post Office Oak) and I've noted quite a bit of it in the area...
