    Bismuth... Tungsten .. steel

I have used ITX for duck hunting in my unmentionables for years and have been very happy with its performance. #6 and #4 for ducks, #2 and BB for geese. It used to be cheaper than bismuth, but got more expensive last couple of years. I hope the "bismuth shortage" ends before this fall.

    June 2020 Postal Match – 5 Bullseye

Finally shot my target today. Will be in the mail tomorrow.

    Lefties

I'm a lefty, but shoot right handed flintlocks almost exclusively. It has never bothered me at all. There have been similar threads here before, and other leftys have stated how they are terribly bothered by shooting right handed guns. My suggestion is try out both if possible. I think that...

March 2020 postal match Shooting for the stars!

My range closed down this week until further notice. I believe this will be an issue for many.

Finally shot my target and mailed it out today.

    Heavier than Lead

Given the price of Heavy Shot, gold might be a more economical option.

    October shoot

Thanks Adui, Glad this month's target made it. My "lost" September target came back to me last week, after nearly three weeks of being mailed. Was tagged as undeliverable for some reason. Printed your address in very large and deliberate lettering this time. You seem to have a dandy of a...

    September 2019 Buffalo hunting!

I mailed my target a week ago today. If it doesn't show up by the time everyone else's does we'll just assume it got lost. No biggie. Thanks again for putting these shoots on.

    Elmer Fudds Revenge

Thanks Adui for putting on the shoot. I hope to make a habit of it.

    SpheroTungsten Shot: Anyone tried it?

I have never used Sphero, but have used their ITX-10 in unmentionables for several seasons on ducks, and it works pretty darn good. Very similar performance to lead, and it's soft enough that no special wads are required. Your chrome lined bore should be fine with traditional loading methods

    Best US Made Kentucky Rifle?

First time I ever posted pics. Kinda got out of hando_O

    Best US Made Kentucky Rifle?

I had him build a 16ga fowler for me, and couldn't be more pleased with it. I had actually only seen a handful of rifles he had built and had for sale at an event at Fort Randolph in WV, and based on how good they looked I ordered a fowler. He was very easy to work with and came up pretty much...

    First Flintlock & Builders

I agree with cositrike. Right handed guns are more hc, and shooting them as a lefty has never bothered me in the least. But other left handers report that shooting right handed flinters is a horrendous ordeal. Better to try one out before making that investment.

Are the Military Heritage brown besses any good?

If you really want an Indian made musket Loyalist or Veteran Arms would be your best bet. I have had zero functional issues with muskets from both. I use them for reenacting. The main issue if you want to live fire them is wait until delivery before you buy a lot of shooting components because...

    Middlesex village?

To knock off the really bright shine, many people rub mustard on the metal. It's the vinegar in it that does the trick. The wood can be really tough to stain. I've had better luck using a wood dye. I've heard of others using leather dye also.

    Loyalist Arms Fusil

I have two muskets from Loyalist. No problems with either one. You can look up previous threads and see all of the arguments pro and con for the Indian made guns, but I would consider Loyalist at the top of the list if you go that route.

    Casting lead sheets

At normal melting temps lead doesn't give off fumes. Can't recall at what temperature it does, but it's a lot higher than normal casting temperature. Lots of discussion on that subject on bullet casting sites.

    Left Handed Shooter

I'm also a left handed shooter and have used mostly right hand flintlocks for decades with no problem. If right handed caplocks haven't been a problem for you, then I can't see flintlocks bothering you either. I had one left hand flintlock rifle in the past, and the left handedness of the rifle...

    More India made smoothies!?!?!

Sounds like you've come to the same conclusion a lot of us have....these India guns are pretty much a kit. I usually remove some wood and tighten things up like you mention, as well as polish up the internals of the lock and lighten the usual 30lb trigger pull. The oil on the stock sounds like...

    More India made smoothies!?!?!

Everything AZbpBurner has recommended for refinishing is excellent advise, and I would try it first. But having refinished several Indian muskets I have found some of those teak wood stocks will not take a regular stain well at all. It's like it refuses to penetrate in some spots. Wood and...
