    Peep sight.

This is the route I'd go. A gunsmith won't charge a whole lot to do this and would probably have it done in 10 minutes while you waited.

    Yes, 1:48 twist.

    Fowler or Rifle

Both are very capable of dispatching a black bear. Assuming both have loads developed that shoot accurately to 50 yards, then choose whichever one your heart desires the most. You could throw a heavier chunk of lead at it with a conical out of the rifled .54 and possibly get a bit...

    GRRW .54 Range Session...

Your first post you said the patches were .015" pre-lubed, but after trying the .018" you referred to the first patches as .010". With groups like your last one, make sure you know what thickness patches you used to get that group! ha ha With the 2f, and then getting away from who-knows-how-old...

    Rust In The Bore

I've had rust one single time after storage for a couple of months in my TC Renegade. I'd done everything the same, except I'd changed from using Hoppes gun oil as a rust preventative to straight Ballistol. I've stored with natural loob, Hoppes gun oil, Ballistol, and now Barricade. Being...

    The Preferred Sight Picture?

I grew up shooting my open sight BB gun a ton. By a ton I mean that we lived in the country, mom went to "town" once a week for groceries and always bought me a 5000 carton of Copperhead BB's, and I was always out about a day before her trip the next week. I always held the top of the front...

    List of common size patches

I have one out in the shed. I put a couple cotton balls in it and then added "cow-in-heat" scent to it. When I set up on a bugling bull I would just take the cap off and set it nearby. Knowing me it still has that in it. I'd let it go for cheap. :ghostly: 🤣

    T/C renegade .54

I also wonder what patch thickness you're using? I have a .54 Renegade too. My groups really tightened up when I went from .015" patches to .018" pillow ticking patches. With a .530 RB. It is also very picky about lube quantity, it likes barely enough on the patch to just coat the entire thing...

    WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I agree with Boomerang, should be plenty fine for 50 or less deer accuracy. If you're going to try lighter lube on the patches I wouldn't adjust the sights until you see what that result is first. (I'm hoping one ragged hole). One change at a time, whether it be lighter lubed patches, 3f...

    TC renegade load problems

The difference between 60 and 70 seems crazy drastic to me too. What size ball, what thickness of patch, what lube, and how much? I believe the difference of 10 grains has the patches not holding up. Recover some patches from both charges and I'll bet there is a drastic difference in how they...

    WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I agree with Carbon6 on too much lube. I find TOTW mink oil to be extremely slick and get much better groups if I apply it very lightly. I simply swipe a patch across the tin of lube once with "medium" pressure on the patch and then rub it into the patch clear out to the edges with my thumbs...

Very sorry to hear of this. You are always polite and respectful on here with nothing but help offered. Prayers to you and your wife.

Can someone who is knowledgeable Please help?

I didn't see it mentioned, have you checked under the barrel for maker marks? Many times there are marks that aren't visible until the barrel is removed from the stock. It looks like a hook style breech, so all you have to do is remove the wedge pin that is at the fore grip (where the left...

    Identification Help Sought

Hopefully someone else with better knowledge will answer, but my first guess would be to contact a museum curator. They should be able to provide good local contacts. Thanks for sharing the photos, pretty remarkable what's out there hanging over mantles.

    IT'S ALWAYS THE LITTLE THINGS.

After cleaning my barrel in a bucket of soapy water and drying the outside with a towel I always blast around the sights, under rib, and tenons with some canned air. My rear sight is a bolt on style, it is surprising how much water comes out from under it. We all learn one way or another. I...

    Hammer blowback

Change the nipple and go from there. A worn nipple can both blow back the hammer and increase group size. I'd recommend a Treso/Ampco nipple. They hold up very well and have about a .028" flash hole.

    WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

From a solid bench with sand bags or similar. Absolutely work up a tight grouping load before worrying about sighting in, except to make sure it's close at 25 so you'll be on paper at 50. If groups are at least 2" or less at 25 and patches look good, then I move straight to 50. Stay at 25 and...

    Of Those Who Hunt

I hunt 95% private (my own or family's property) and 5% public for whitetail. Whitetail is any weapons from Oct. 10th through Dec. 1st in the units I hunt. No baiting allowed. I either still hunt them with a muzzleloader or sit in a tree with the same or my bow. I'd say I still prefer to...
