What's the farthest you've ever shot with a long rifle?

Shot an antelope doe at 95-105 yards this year with a .530 roundball out of my plains rifle. Worked very well. Shot a 5 gallon bucket at 200 yards with the same rig and centered it on second shot. First shot just missed high. Last years whitetail at 22 yards was much more comforting.

Hunting rifle likes out of the herd

I prefer furry rests for the rifle when I can find them. Lord willing, that 58 may find something furry come fall. If not, I reckon barbed wire will do.

Hunting rifle likes out of the herd

Lot of great looking rifles on this thread. I have been using a right-handed Hawken type rifle in 54 for the last few years. Kept wanting to find something left-handed. Found this 58 caliber Hawken recently and with only a 1" wide barrel, it sure carries and shoots fine. This will be my...

To shoot or not to shoot? Unethical?

Where's all the deer threads???? Pics please........

Got this guy on the eastern plains of CO this October. .530 roundball at 22 yards from the Hawken did him in. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Had coyotes yapping, sandhill cranes were migrating like crazy, pheasants cackling in the tall prairie grass, and of course whitetails playing in the corn.

    Smith for pulling breech plug

Tried shooting it out about 8 times. For some reason the gas is escaping around the jag and I cannot get it to fire out. I have cleaned barrel well and pulled nipple and soaked that area with oil. Will contact the smith referenced and get this fixed up. Frustrating but will learn and move on...

    Smith for pulling breech plug

Hello, Got a new stainless 45 LRH barrel from Green Mountain last fall and finally got around to shooting it. I am new to 45s, and have shot a few 50s and 54s over the years. Anyways, went back to shooting ffg blackpowder and figured I would swab the bore after first two shots. Those 2 by the...

    Green Mountain fast twist barrels

Hawk Driver, My experience was the same as Walks with Fire. Loads of 80 to 90 grains with Hornady 410 grain conicals shot well. Had a bear last year at 18 yards broadside on a water hole and it never took a step. Fine barrel. Bought a closeout fast twist stainless 45 barrel from them over the...
