    Got my newest rifle today

C'mon Shane, I got guys telling me how to sight in a rifle as if I'd never done it before and now you are gonna play Marine and act like this Army guy can't shoot... :blah: We'll get it. I do think it's just a matter of lowering the rear sight some more. There's plenty left there to work with...

    Got my newest rifle today

LOL, Actually, that picture is a little deceiving. That's just the side of the sight that you see. I don't want to call it a buck horn cause it isn't at all but it's just the decorative bit that you see. There's still plenty left for filing though!! That's for sure. It'll come along, I'm...

    Got my newest rifle today

I'll try to weigh it this week. Bu the feel of it it's lighter than my TVM fowler but real close to a couple 42" straight barreled rifles I have, for what that's worth....

    Got my newest rifle today

Your right. A taller front sight would make it better but I don't think I'll be replacing either for a couple personal reasons. But, I will be removing more from the rear to get it on the money. I'm not going to spend much time on it right away though. Although that Patch/Ball/powder combo...

    Got my newest rifle today

Shane....I'm trying to make you big time! You can't sell yourself short. Everything I said was true. :blah: Kieth...yep. That's how I, and Supercracker too since he didn't say any different, start things off. I've got a real good load already worked up. I'm happy with it at 25 and 50. But I'm...

    Got my newest rifle today

Well, Ol' Supercracker finshed my rifle and I went to get it today. It's a Chambers Penn Fowler stock with a .54 46" Long Hammock round bottom rifled barrel. Here's a video. Click on it to see it. He treated me right. When I went to get it, we shot on his private range, he made the sight...

    North Carolina Elk?

They were reintroduced back about 10 years or so ago. I don't think there are any huntable populations on public land outside of the park. I could very well be wrong since I only visit and don't live there.

    TVM

I called from Afghanistan and talked with Toni about what I wanted. She gave me a fair quote. When it was delivered it had better wood, a better lock, and a few other extras that I didn't ask (or pay) for. They did me right. The first gun I bought from them was equally as pleasant of an...

    Kansas squirrels

Worms under the skin? Warbles? Ours down here get 'em during the summer. When the weather cools off they go away. Doesn't hurt the meat any. Pretty gross looking though.

    Dixons Gunmakers Fair

Wish I could go again this year but the wife and I are doing a week in Williamsburg then. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Dixon's last year.

    Tennessee Rifle Decorations

I'd say personalize it however YOU want to. It's your gun now. You are the one going to be sitting with it in the woods. Make it look like what you want. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't go around telling curious that it's a true representation of anything other than what it is, a rifle...

    Tennessee Rifle Decorations

Sounding more and more like you may have fell into the old trap of buying a gun before developing your persona. It happens. That gun, while certainly a good gun, is not a 1770's one and it's not indicative of what a person in New England would be carrying then. Enjoy it though. Nothing wrong...

    Star Trek Flintlock Episode

Could be. The one good up close view of the lock was obviously a non-firing lock. Plastic? Something. It was pretty ugly though. But there are several scenes with actual firing ones. To my untrained eye these didnt look like anything but cheap, fullstock muzzleloaders.

    Star Trek Flintlock Episode

Link This episode deals with a primitive tribe at the farthest reaches of space who are dealing with the acquisition of Flintlock muzzleloaders by their enemies...LOL!!! The locks are very odd looking when you finally get to see one up close but other than that the guns look alright.

Dang! I hope the son comes through ok. Long road ahead for him and his family. What a sad thing.

    New beginner

Welcome. Flintlocks do fine here. They're all I use anymore. Just check your priming powder every now and then. If you check out Track of the Wolf, they have a way to see the "supplies" for different calibers. It's basically several pages of the basic stuff to keep your gun shooting all...

    Squirrel Hide Usage?

Does the consensus seem to be to tan them yourself or are ya'll using the local taxidermist to get things done?

really bad, or just smell bad?

These were some pups I had a few years back. This was the first pig they'd ever laid eyes on, about 5 minutes prior to this. This little shoat was a little bada$$ that grew up to be a sweety. Both dogs went on to be great on hogs. Click on the picture for a video.

    Roundball Caliber for Large Hogs

I think the .62 you said you were having built would be sufficient.
