I picked up a TC 45 Hawken from a widow whos husband died 15yrs ago.She had bought him this gun 20+yrs ago.Because she bought it for him,he never shot it but hung it on the wall.It has 1-2 marks on the frizzen from trying the flint.The frizzen is blued and I'm guessing older/unhardened like...

Keep the charges light and it will group.Have killed deer with 50 grs with RB and maxis but prefer RB. Have one in 36 and 2 in 45.Both 45's shoot equally well at 50yds.

I threw the kitchen sink down the muzzle of my 36 Seneca.Finally she settled on a .360 RB an 40grs of FFFg.The maxi also did well with felt.

I do want to try the .575 RB but for now using the .570.

I have gone in scrapes and it does drive them crazy.

I have 45's,50's,54 in flinters but nothing bigger.Have a TC Big Boar in 58 but thats percussion. Could I get a 58cal or larger barrel for a Lyman GPR or get a barrel for a 1"flats TC Renegade? Would a custom be a better idea?

I weigh EVERY ball.Any ball less than 1gr of the heaviest ball gets remelted.I just feel it could throw that ball into a wobble.

I rendered off a little more than 5gal the week of Thanksgiving.Had 3 crockpots going 3 times and got 4 gal.Now to wait till the oil comes to the top. You are gonna enjoy the stuff! :thumbsup: Remember to keep temp on LOW!

Lyman. Don't have a TC in 54 but in the 50's I have both and TC comes in a close 2nd.

Lyman Great Plains 54cal 3 shot group at 50yds.Black is traced bottom of soup can. Lyman 45cal Plains. Have a Lyman Great Plains percussion in 50cal that gets less than 1 1/2"groups at 50yds with a .490 RB,.020 patch and both 80grs and 100grs but I prefer the 80grs when I hunt with it...

The Seneca is a smaller frame muzzy.I have 2 in 45cal and kill deer with 50grs of powder. The Hawken 45cal is a heavier gun and will handle heavier charges. Both kill deer.No bad choice with either.

Just ran 3 crockpots thru yesterday,got 3 more going today,and more fat coming tomorrow. :stir:

My blue is about .018 and red about .012 if that.

Both can be used.Lard or oil.Some mix bees wax in to stiffen it up. Just took 4 5gal buckets and a large tub to the butcher.Told him to fill them.Half lard this year for baking and other half oil.
