I'm in London, about 20 miles west of Columbus. Haven't been over your way for a while, but get out to the New Albany gun shop once or twice a year.

I know the stock has been redone, under the nosecap is remnants of a dark reddish color. May be a parts rifle thrown together by someone, the nosecap looks to be hand-cut by the uneven edges, and the inletting in the stock for it is uneven also.

Bought an old percussion rifle yesterday off a guy whose dad had died and left him several guns. Got it apart right now to clean it up a bit, and can't find many markings on it. The lock is a silver color with "H. Elwell" and "Warranted" surrounded by a circle, and has a pheasant and a couple...

Speaking of the crockett being front heavy, I bought a brass ramrod for mine which makes it even more so. I think it makes for a bit steadier aim though. :winking: The cva looks very nice, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Its not an outright sale, Its a trade for another rifle. The only thing I've found so far is that some have brazed bolsters instead of threaded.

I have a chance to pick up a Hy-Hunter Zouave, but can't find much info on them. I know they are an early import, but just how good are they? Up to the quality of a Navy Arms? If anyone owns one of these let me know how well you like it. Thanks!

You guys are making my head hurt! I'm just lazy. Sight all mine in at 50 yards and figure thats good enough, cause the farthest I ever shoot is around 100 yards.

Just wanted to say there's a lot of good advive on this board. Was having a lot of problems with my Miroku Kentucky misfiring and slow ignition. Drilled out the vent to 5/64 and deepened the pan a little, happy to say that no more misfires and sped up ignition a good bit. Works very well now...

I've got a buckhorn on the back of mine, while not a peep by any means, it seems to help line up the sights better. May just be my imagination also.

If it was me, I'd shoot it and see how it did. I've seen some awful bores shoot well. Very rare that a rifle is pitted bad enough to be unsafe, especially as thick as most bp rifles barrels are. If you're very concerned you can always take it to a gunsmith and have it looked over, which would...

On the half cock, If the bolt holdin the lock together is too tight it will stick out the other side and the hammer will catch it when falling. At least, thats the way mine is.

Thats how I do it also. Never had a problem with misfires after this.
