    shot through a rifled barrel

There was an interesting post some time back in the hunting section that describes using shot in a 45cal rifle effectively and the process . You might look at post#1194743 as I dont know how to add link to it but it was by a member named juancho

    Copper Banded Presentation Horn

Wow I love that horn! I think the copper really sets it off. :hatsoff:

    double ball loads

I was pleased with the load. I did use it one time a few years ago to harvest a deer and was satisfied with the results. It didn't kill any " deader " than the single ball would have as it was a well placed shot but it did leave two wound channels on exit side so I feel more blood was left for...

    double ball loads

Earlier in the year I done some experimenting with my 40 and double ball shot through the chrono. My velocity went from 1900 fps average with single ball to 1490 with same charge and double ball.

One more time with the 40...

My deer charge is 65 gr in my 40 because past that my accuracy begins to decrease and patches start to show signs of gass leaking. 65 gr gets me in the mid 1900 fps range with 3f and a 38 inch barrel. About 50 yards is as far as I shoot but I have killed a few with mine and most have been closer...

Does lead deform in the barrel

I don't know that I have a theory but I have an oberservation and maybe you guy can provide some insight. I am guilty of a dry ball on occasion and in the instances when I have, the loading procedure was the same minus powder. When the ball was pulled, weave impressions were made in areas where...

    Survival of Original Guns

Getting paper work on them , while not hard to get , does take time. Colt lost many records over time, once in a fire and once in a flood . They can be documented now but many times only through shipping records and they are not very detailed. You can contact Colt or other manufactuer for...

    Survival of Original Guns

I would say the chances of an auction house having an original cap and ball pistol every month could be pretty good. There is a difference in production line guns that were mass produced and long rifles that were constructed individually one at a time. Colt produced a quarter million 1851s...

    GPR to a trekking rifle

Another thing to consider is usually pistol shooter shoots a considerable amount less powder than a rifle of the same caliber. While rpm is directly related to bullet stabilization,it is achieved by a combination of velocity and rate of twist per inch. If a bullet is turning at say the...

    TVM rifles

I have a finished rifle from them built by Jack Garner and I have also built a couple from their parts sets. Nice folks to deal with and also handled a problem I had with one parts set in a quick and timely manner. I would order again if they had something I was looking for.

    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

Sorry if I acted offended earlier, it's been a tiring day and I may have been a bit short. Maybe this will help explain how I reached my conclusion , first clue if you notice the address on the top of the barrel, it says -Address Samuel Colt New York City- correct address for time. Serial...

    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

I was simply posting pics of a colt that a fellow stopped by to show us and in doing so he himself was trying to find out more information. I thought you all might enjoy the pics and story. I also don't claim to be an expert. I have handled several originals, many replicas and a couple fakes. I...

    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

You may be right. I probably should have just titled the post "maybe an original colt". So I have a question for you. What are the tail tell signs that this is a fake. I don't want others to be so foolishly mistaken in the future.
