    Vinegaroon again

Good Morning Fred. The stain I made looks terrible in the jar. (dark and cloudy) and a little better after 4 trips thru a coffee filter. It goes on the wood mostly clear with a hint of grey. I let it sit for a minute or more then hit it with the electric heat gun. It will start to turn right...

Are there Original set trigger articals out there?

In Peter Alexanders book, "The Gunsmith of Grenville County" there is a section on how to fabricate set triggers. It does not look to be terribly difficult. Best of luck to you.......Daniel

    Vinegaroon again

Thanks Rusty. I just made a batch and am very pleased with the results. I tried it on a figured maple 2x4 and one coat produced a mid brown. 2 coats a richer brown and 3 costs a nice reddish brown. With a 2 coat clear finish, the figure "popped" very satisfactory..........Daniel

    Adjusting stains

Hi all. I am considering a dark walnut water based stain for my hard maple stock and wondered if I could get a bit of red in it by soaking a pouch of iron filings in it til they oxidize?? Has anyone tried anything like this before??? I am trying to avoid any hazardous methods of finish like AF...
