Sad day, in my opinion, for our forum

Could good come from the arguments, debates, confrontations, and conflicts in a thread such as this? Yes? It stimulated me to come up with a business venture that may suit many of us - yes, I am included. Here is a t-shirt that I designed from self-knowledge. If anyone wants to use it and start...

Wyoming BP made the local news.

I am pleased to see that you have settled down in such a great location, Tallswife. In the past, I've made it a point to take trips from Colorado to Wyoming. When I was still physically capable of riding a motorcycle, I would ride from the Golden, CO area, up into the North Park area, Walden...

    Update from the Host

I wish you a complete and quick recovery. I had it when it first came out and it had a big punch, with symptoms that lasted for about 2 months. It damaged my lungs enough to give me my first case of asthma at age 74. Fortunately, it is mild asthma. The omicron version is very contagious, but...

    Evil lead!

How about those who are unhappy about it but are still cuckoo? Here is my first exposure to heavy metals:

    Evil lead!

stank said: " I believe some of the arctic explorations at the turn of the last century were doomed because of food stored in cans soldered with lead. The sailors were on ship so long eating lead contaminated food that they contracted lead poisoning and...

    Evil lead!

First, some recommendations: 1. If you handle lead bullets, don't lick your fingers before washing your hands. Wash your hands before licking your fingers and you should be fine. 2. If you melt lead to make bullets and round balls, make certain you have plenty of ventilation. The issue of lead...

    Evil lead!

Uranium 238 decays via alpha and beta radiation into lead 206 in 4.5 billion years, as TennGun says. However, Uranium 235 decays into lead 207 in 704 million years. So, if you plan to wait around to see if these numbers are accurate, I recommend waiting only 700 million years looking for lead 207.

    Evil lead!

Lead toxicity depends on the chemical conditions surrounding it and the dose. There is no known physiological use for lead in the body. We do require heavy metals like iron. As a result, it takes very high levels of iron to become toxic. Lead, on the other hand, is toxic at very low levels...

Anniversary Dinner at the place that triggered my interest in Muzzleloading

Thank you! The owner of the Fort died a few years ago and his daughter took it over. It still has the western ambience , nice views of Denver and TeePee inside the Fort. It still is expensive, but worth it for special occasions.

Anniversary Dinner at the place that triggered my interest in Muzzleloading

My wife and I had our 51st Anniversary Dinner at the "Fort" restaurant in Morrison, CO. The Fort supposedly is a replica of a fur trader's fort and they hold small "Rendezvous" and muzzleloader demonstrations there. Buffalo, Prairie Quail and mountain trout make up a good portion of the menu...

    What did you do today

Walked about 1/2 mile around a local park with my wife. There were several, brief rest stops, but it was a great feeling of accomplishment. My wife claims that she is there to be sure I don't fall. I'm about 240 lbs and she is 110 lbs. Yup, she is going to stop me from falling 😧😄. Someone asked...

    What did you do today

Yesterday, I walked all the way around our driveway without a walker or cane. I am 1 week back from a rehab hospital after back and spine surgery. Also walked the stairs to my man cave several times. It is so good to be home after 1 week in a hospital and 2 weeks in a rehab facility!

    Are you going to shoot??

I am not paranoid, but I am cautious and conservative in my approach to shooting under current conditions. My black powder muzzleloaders should get me through the shortages because I have plenty of black powder to keep me active. I have read in Gun publications (for what it's worth) comments...

Brass Butt Plate found in South Africa

The history of the Voortrekkers is fascinating. It falls into the realm of black powder and muzzleloader interest and also has similarities to the American Old West. The Voortrekkers executed fighting tactics similar to the Western-moving wagon trains of the USA. Here, we circled the wagons. In...

Brass Butt Plate found in South Africa

I've seen a few old muzzleloaders hanging on walls at restaurants throughout South Africa. Your butt plate could be from a British sporting rifle as stated by some of our experts here, but it would be much more fun to fantasize about it being from a Vortrekker flintlock.:) Then, again, it would...

    Hatfield rifle

Yes, Sir, you can turn it into a flintlock. I purchased an L&R flint lock for my Hatfield that was issued as a percussion. The lock was styled after an early Ketland. The L&R fits, but not as tightly as the original percussion lock. There is just a little more space between the lock and the...
