India Origin Guns Won't Shoot ???

took my India made Charleville from Veteran Arms out today. Took 14 shots plus the dry firing/flash in the pan at home added up to about 20 strikes and the flint needed to be napped again. Made up some various loads to shoot from Paper cartridges, patch and ball and rasp dimpled larger balls.

2 quick question about an issue for someone who just bought his first BP revolver

I have always used 3F Goex. My dad with what seldom he shot (pistols maybe once or twice a year) he used the pyrodex pellets. with both my cap and ball, I really like the separate rammer. My range requires a loading stand for pistols and its painful to use what they give you or else you gotta...

    I HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS

Aim Low, whether up hill or down hill. 50-60 yards won't make a huge difference if you are using a stout hunting load from my experience with my .54 GPR and PRB. Not much drop should be occurring. My biggest issues are in my stand when shooting those pointed feathery sticks and I sighted on...

Lyman Great Plains Rifle Kit build series

Thx for posting this. I really wish this video series was available when I built my kit. I built my Lyman 54 in 2014 and it was my first kit. I did draw file the billboard and warnings on the top and left side. (I attached a pic of the nasty billboard that it comes with). I left the serial #...

    Crockett rifle-just because!

Nice. I like the finish on your over the stock finish that comes with the built Rifle. Got mine last week and started breaking in the barrel. Started with 20g FFFG and .311 balls from a lee mold. Groups were not very good but my patch may not be thick enough. Seemed to do better with 30gr FFFG...

    Traditions Crockett breech type

Cool, glad I could help. Mine came in yesterday and I took the opportunity to shoot it this morning. The hard part for me was getting the tiny ball's sprue pointed up. I custom turned a jag but the .32-.36 ball starter I got from TOW was still too large IMO. I also ended up cutting the patch...

How to make your precussion touch off every shot with out fail

I think I understand what he is saying. When the ball is seated you have: Nipple <> air gap <> Powder <> Patch <> Ball The air gap is sealed by the powder/patch/ball on one end and the Nipple on the other. It is correct to say that a nipple is not truly air tight, however , it will only...

How long will Moose Milk keep?

I thought moose Milk has H202 (Hydrogen Perixide) in it. I know my Moose Milk bottle from years ago, I covered in tape to keep the light out. That is the only reason I think I would have done that. H202 is light sensitive so if it has H202, you need to keep it in something that blocks light...

    Traditions Crockett breech type

I have a Crockett on its way to me. I have never used or had a loading block but thinking about it for this one as just being able to see the sprue is up properly, I feel I have to put my reading glasses on. Have you thought about making and using a loading block for it?

    Great Plains Hunter 54 conicals?

FYI, per the advice of a very wise and experianced local, I used a lubed wad behind the 300 Lee REAL in my 54 GPR. It was all over the place until I got to 90+ grains. But mine is a 1:60" twist. I have not given up on Finding a good load for the REAL but PRB is still shooting more accurate in it.

Getting Cleaning Jag stuck in my barrel...

This is giving me good ideas. I have a Traditions Crockett .32 on its way and I read a review about a "step" at the breech in the barrel. I already had plans to file the jag on a drill press but now I see I may have to taper the front more than I thought.

    Setting the Flint position

Just filmed this tonight. I think the flint on the traditions needs knapping and resetting. I just put a new flint into the dixie cub but had the angle really bad the first time. This is of course without any powder in the pan.

Was there a set punishment for a soldier who dry balled a gun??

This article comes to mind: https://www.guns.com/news/2017/03/28/relic-hunter-x-rays-civil-war-musket-finds-stacks-of-minie-balls-video "fog of war" affects the untrained tremendously. I had originally thought, how do you dry ball if you are loading from a cartridge? tearing it open and...

    Setting the Flint position

All, I want to expand my knowledge with info from the forum collective. Here is a picture of a simple Traditions Pistol Kit I built up a few years back which was my first flint. Feel free to pick it apart. I'm looking for knowledge on setting up the position/angle etc of a flint in the jaws...

    Midway USA

    Traditions (Chiappa) Enfield 1853 Kit

rat, yea, I thought about leaving it, but its just that its like half and half. I would have prefered it if they cut the wood so that it was say dark on top and light on the bottom.

    Traditions (Chiappa) Enfield 1853 Kit

I forgot to take pics yesterday but worked on the stock over the weekend. Here is a before pic of the trigger guard where I had to take down the wood. I have also started to work on the casted brass butt plate and trigger guard which need to be worked to get it smoothed out. The butt plate...
