    Breech Plug Spacer

Gold would work but nobody is ever going to see it and it's hard to work with being so soft not to mention expensive.

    Kashtuk Bowcraft Early Trade Gun

He not only makes great looking guns but is incredibly fast at it. It seems that every other day he is posting a new one on Facebook. He either has an army of elves building guns or the man just doesn't sleep.

    Breech Plug Spacer

Most TC rifles have plugs fitted like that. I have done the same thing to several of them. I face off the bottom of the hole and the breech plug so I had a nice square sealing surface then turn and anneal a brass washer. A thou or so too thick and turn the plug into alignment and I know I have a...

Anyone use Ballistol on wood regularly?

I haven't used it on dry unfinished wood but it works great to clean finished wood. I like the smell especially how it goes with BP fouling for a delightful aroma that has the added benefit of keeping wimmin away so I have peace and quiet to play with my guns.

WANTED Want to buy .72 Kodiak Safari Express

I have a nice one I would sell, but don't have a good way to ship it. If you find yourself on this side of the country we could strike a bargain.

    Overpowder Wad For Musket?

With my own trade musket, a wad does improve things if I use a bare ball. If it's patched I can't see that it makes any difference. Still need to get around to making some paper cartridges for it. As has been said, just got to try things and see what happens. Especially with smoothbores!

    Uberti short arbor question

OK, this is all very funny and I realize how you do something depends on what tools you have available. I worked in a custom rifle shop, and all the measuring tools are second nature. It's trivial to measure two points and whip out the exactly right spacer on the lathe compared to sticking a...

    New Flintlock

If your rifle has the older style hammer (cock) it will benefit from being swapped to the newer one and frizzen. The old ones really bashed the flints.

How da You Like Your Howdah?

Hickock45 has a pretty good Youtube vid of him playing with one if you want to see them in action. I handled one at Dixie gun works and couldn't figure out how to hold it so my stubby finger could reach the front trigger. It's made for somebody with bigger hands than I have!

    Uberti short arbor question

Depth mics are the key here. First deburr everything so the arbor will go all the way into the hole without binding, then use your depth mic to compare the end of the arbor to the frame, and the depth of the hole in the barrel. Then turn an insert that size. I put it in with a little sticky...

    Uberti short arbor question

When the wedge was inserted, it pulled the barrel back so it pinched the cylinder between the barrel and the frame. Of course at that point the cylinder wouldn't turn.

    Uberti short arbor question

I don't understand why they build them like that. It's not like they couldn't make it correctly. That was quite a nice revolver once we got it fitted up properly.

    Uberti short arbor question

Definitely on that Walker. A friend just bought the same revolver and we had to add .094" to get it to work. It was not usable out of the box.

Well it was all black powder so pretty much the same.

    Ducking powder

Both Laflin & Rand and Hazard powder company used to make Ducking or duck shooting powder. That was an old can for sure.

    Rebore to 38 caliber

While looking at this really nice RCBS .375" ball mold I have, I was wondering if anyone has had a barrel rebored or even made new in 38 caliber so you could shoot revolver balls in it? I wonder if Bob Hoyt has the cutters to do that?

Pedersoli Queen Ann .50 cal. Brass Barrel

Is it rifled? I thought they were all smoothbore. Just wondering since the load recommendation. You sure done good on the price! Mike Bellevue's youtube video on those is pretty entertaining.

Looking for a Decent Spotting Scope.

When I was shopping for a spotting scope, I had the luxury of being able to walk around the SHOT show and try out everything that was on the market and many that weren't yet. I was specifically looking for something to spot silhouette matches. What I ended up buying is a Celestron 80mm. There...

    Smootbore round ball loads

I put a rear sight on mine and it helped considerably in shooting balls. And as a bonus for shooting flying my eyes are so bad now I can't see the rear sight anyway so it doesn't hurt anything. Not sure a lubed wad in front of the ball would help, kind of like the Skychief load. But it's a...
