I haven't used it on dry unfinished wood but it works great to clean finished wood. I like the smell especially how it goes with BP fouling for a delightful aroma that has the added benefit of keeping wimmin away so I have peace and quiet to play with my guns.

With my own trade musket, a wad does improve things if I use a bare ball. If it's patched I can't see that it makes any difference. Still need to get around to making some paper cartridges for it. As has been said, just got to try things and see what happens. Especially with smoothbores!

If your rifle has the older style hammer (cock) it will benefit from being swapped to the newer one and frizzen. The old ones really bashed the flints.

When the wedge was inserted, it pulled the barrel back so it pinched the cylinder between the barrel and the frame. Of course at that point the cylinder wouldn't turn.

I don't understand why they build them like that. It's not like they couldn't make it correctly. That was quite a nice revolver once we got it fitted up properly.

Definitely on that Walker. A friend just bought the same revolver and we had to add .094" to get it to work. It was not usable out of the box.
