I did the same thing and had the same problem I used a slice of lead shaped to the pan and lock plate bolster and have been using it for 10 years now. Only time you ever have to worry about it is whenyou remove the lock otherwise it sits right in place.

Sounds like your in it deep. You'll just have to take a chance and try what you feel is right. However stains and finish can hide a lot so I wouldn't be to worried. As a guess I would try the aqua-fortis and finish it the same way you did last time. Relax!
