    Removing the plug worth it?

Thanks 'yall for the help. Yes the barrel is marked and I have a "big ass" vise. That plug is in there so tight I was worried about twisting the barrel or sumthin. I guess it's time to head out to the garage where its -10 degrees get mid-evil on that bad boy! Does it help to heat the...

    Removing the plug worth it?

I'm sure this has probably been discussed here before but I'm gonna ask for the opinion of the pros here  I've always had the plugs installed when buying a barrel and always inletted them into the stock with the plug/tang in the barrel. I decided to try out a Chambers set and for the...

    Original Isaac Haines pics?

Yes, I have that one. Very good book but limited on detail shots like the RCA books have. Plus the particular rifle I'm looking for is not in it. I'm really looking for detailed pics that someone might have taken from the actual "original" rifle. I appreciate the help though.

    Original Isaac Haines pics?

I know this is a long shot, But does anyone out there have "detailed" color pics. of any of the "original" Isaac Haines rifles? Particularly the one shown in RCA No.78. I assume since these Black and white pics are in the book, the rifle must still exist in a private collection or museum. Yes I...

    First LR

What's ugly about it? Color? Style? Looks like Bethlehem school? :hmm: I think it needs a little engraving work on the patch box

    Will Epoxy Release with Heat?

Might try a glue gun. They are cheap. When done, just heat it up a bit with a propane torch to release and peel it off.

    Best Lock inlet?

So are you guys saying to stay away from Chambers precarves as well as track and pectonica ? I've also had a bit of trouble with the later two as well. Never built a Chambers.

    Lancaster style?

Just trying to make up my mind on a 38 or 42" Lancaster for my next project. Gotta be HC  Guess I need to get me those RCA books.

    Lancaster style?

Heres some questions for the Lancaster gurus. Did Isaac Haines ever use the dasiy-headed patch box on his rifles? I have very little info. on his work. Most original pics show a more simple style of design. Also on the subject: did Jacob Dickert ever build shorter barrled rifles? Approx 38"...

Help Stabilizing Crack in Walnut Stock Blank

While I'm no expert on the subject, I think I would try to mix up some acraglas (the thin stuff) or some thinned clear epoxy and inject the glue in the crack with a syringe. Nice piece of wood. Hope it works out for ya. If it doesn't work out, You got some nice pistol blanks

    LMF browning woes

No, The "coppering" he was talking about will have a copper color. The air is very dry during the winter so it's gonna take longer to brown. You need to get the humidity up. Use a warm mist humidifier near by or hang the barrel in the bath room with the shower. (not in the shower  ) Keep...

    Another rifle done

Thank you. After the aquafortis, the stock wouldn't turn brown no matter how much heat was applied. It just turned a dark olive. I've read that this can happen once in a blue moon to some stocks due to the way they grew, mineral content in the soil, etc. Who knows? Anyway, I fixed this by...
