I'm building a Hawken. I'm at the stage where I need to temporarily attach the tang to the hooked breech for inletting. I've read here in other posts about using super glue or soldering it. I have tried super-glue, but it does not want to hold. Never ever having had a need to solder, I don't have the materials.

Is epoxy a possibility? Will it release if heated up when the inletting job is done? Anyone have experience with this?

Yes - I have used a heat gun but a hair dryer may work in a pinch.

After separating, let it cool/harden again and then you should be able to sand away the residue without much difficulty.

My experience with the Fast Set epoxies tell me Yes.
Ya know the "set's in 6 minutes" stuff, If you use that stuff on anything in Minn, and move it from indoor to outdoor in the winter a few times it'll let loose by itself!!

thanks for the posts, everyone ... had the same question but for non- muzzleloading issues (other craft stuff ...

:hatsoff:

5 min epoxy is real handy for holding stuff like side plates for filling and polishing and a engraveing. Just heat the parts with a propane torch to just beyond the sizzle point of water. They pop off nicely.BJH

I recently used 5 min. epoxy to hold a trigger guard to a piece of aluminum. Used the point of a razor knife to separate the parts. Came right off.

The answer is yes an so will super glue. But like the man said don't use JB weld. I solder mine on.
