    Browning a barrel

When i did mine many years ago, I made a humidity box out of cardboard boxes and was just very patient. I recall putting cups of steaming hot water in the box every couple hours. It was very cold that winter and the humidity was naturally low otherwise. Jim

    Lyman GPR Trigger

I ordered a Deerslayer trigger for my GPR today. I have never been happy with the original, and I like a good trigger on my target rifles. For $61 delivered, it is a pretty inexpensive option. Hope it is a good as people say. Jim

Just ordered a Lyman GPR Kit

I only used the dremel in the barrel channel and very carefully. You definitely want a light touch on it. Thinking and patience are your two most important tools. Jim in NC

Just ordered a Lyman GPR Kit

Back in 2001 or so, I built my GRP kit and just found my old posts from the old MLML. Probably not much help, but it will be interesting to see what has changed in 15 years. Jim not in NC. Building a Lyman’s Great Plains Rifle Kit - Part 1 Let me begin with a disclaimer ”“ I am NOT an...

    GPR Set Trigger Sensitivity

Got around to tinkering on this today. The issue was not the adjustment screw, but a small set screw under the trigger mainspring which seems to put upward pressure on this spring. It was backed out a little. I gave it a turn inward and now all is well. A drop of locktite should keep it that...

    GPR Set Trigger Sensitivity

Whats cheaper is that which is already sitting on the workbench, as the low strength loctite already is . . . use it often. JPM

    GPR Set Trigger Sensitivity

I'll adjust this weekend and apply loctite . . . Will advise if that does not seem to revolve it. JPM

    GPR Set Trigger Sensitivity

Was out shooting my GPR today, generally went well as normal except that after about 7 - 8 shots my set trigger seems to get more sensitive. Almost like it will go off without touching it. Do you think I just have it set too touchy, or is my 15 year old gun in need of some TLC? I own another...

    Wiping barrel between shots

I use Dutch's moose milk, except with Murphy's Oil Soap in place of the pine-sol he suggests. It is not thick, nice and thin. I keep it in a small squirt bottle for range work, but I am not trying to look old-timey at the range.

    Traditions .32 cal. crockett rifle

Is the Crockett rifle an import, maybe from Investarms? It seems to be higher grade than the Hawken style rifles. Jim

    Dutch's system works

Hang in there Dutch, I bought you "system" back in 2002 when I started shooting ML. Learned about you from the old Muzzeloading Mailing List that "Old Fox" ran. I learned so much from your stuff and that list. Keep going best you can, still so many need to learn from you. Jim

    Renegade Wedge Pin

One thing I did on my Lyman GPR was to fold up a patch and put some WD-40 on it (just so it would not attract moisture and rust) then put the patch under the barrel half way to the wedge. This put some tension on the whole affair - helped tighten up the group and keep the wedge from...

Howdy everyone . . . just joined this forum. Took a bit of a break from ML related activities for a few years (other than hunting) and time to get back to it. For many years in the late 1990's and early 2000's I was active on the old MLML (Muzzleloading Mailing List). I shoot a Lyman GPR in...
