Wife wants a muzzleloader, please help

This is what I did for the wife, built a nice little Lancasterish that tips the scales at 6 1/4 lbs, shoots and holds like a dream.

:hatsoff: Exactly why in 2004 we started shooting muzzle loaders exclusively.

    Magnifying visor?

I've had the same opti-visor for a bit over 10 years now, have the #'s 5, 7, and 10 lens and am just now starting to see the lens pegs fatigue. In looking at the visor you pictured the first thing that came to mind was how much cooler and lighter it looks, comfort is important. With a battery...

    Floaters

Not diabetic, got lucky in that respect. Already wearing progressive bi-focal lens though, never thought I'd see that day either. Figured after the way I treated myself over the years that there would be a price to pay and I would not get out of this life unscathed

    TC Kit

Clarify this just a bit, with a quality parts set you could end up with a rifle worth several thousand or several hundred depending on your skill set and how much time you spend doing research. With a T/C or Lyman "kit" you'll be lucky to get your money out of it.

    Floaters

No fireworks, just black squiggly lines and occasional dark spots, Though I spent considerable time practicing my bench technique I always shied away from magnumitis, .35 Whelen/.45-70 was about as "punchy" as I ever wanted. Fast forward to the future and a .62 flintlock trade gun with 70gr...

    Floaters

Have had them for a few years at least, they're not an issue really as of yet, the raging tinnitus is far more troublesome. I'll be 50 soon.

    Magnifying visor?

Yes, use them all the time. opti-visor with #5 lens seems to give the best trade off between magnification and working distance for my needs.

    Caywood Trade Rifle?

An older Caywood lock, the rest of the parts were sourced elsewhere.

    Caywood Trade Rifle?

I have a Caywood lock on a trade gun, excellent lock all the way around.

What do you use for a pick?

You are a most fortunate man to have not been in the company of any of the many ham handed individuals that frequent the community. As far as the original question, I use a piece of #12 copper house wiring cold forged into a pick, any steel or hard material used as a pick will affect the...

    TC Kit

Especially when you can spend another couple hundred dollars or so and get a much better product for your money. Although, does not matter how much money is spent on a set of parts, when finished you can have a rifle worth several thousand dollars or end up with a rifle worth a couple hundred...

    loose dovetail

What rifle, custom or factory. You could "grow" the sight with some selective hammering on the edges of the sight itself. or Depending on the configuration of the sight, you could peen the edges of the dovetail down to pinch the sight tight. or Might just be that the best solution is to...
