    Help with lock

Looks as though that lock has not been in-letted to it's final depth, the gap at the bolster needs to be closed up (in contact with the barrel) and also looks as though some wood needs to be removed behind the cock. As it stands now that rifle is unsafe to shoot as pan priming powder can work...

    Which size White Lightning

If it were me doing this, I'd opt for the smallest liner that Chambers offers that way if in time something goes wrong with that size of liner it's a non-issue to go up to the next size liner, along that line of rational you get three tries.

    inlay practice

Having been away from the books for a few years this was my honest opinion most likely due to the fact that I am not a fan of wire inlay, after dusting them off recently to do some research I rediscovered that there were several builders back in the day that practiced wire inlay. Just wanted to...

Question about knapping flint edge in the jaws of the cock

It is a rare day indeed when my processes agree with those of hanshi, but this is the method I was taught to sharpen a flint on the trail, don't tap down on the top of the flint, tap back along the leading edge of the flint, the 'ol guy that taught it to me started building muzzle loaders in the...

    Dremel bit?

The only thing I learned about using a Dremel around muzzle loaders is the fact that they'll get you into trouble so much faster than non power type tooling, not interested in that style of aggravation.

So why do *you* enjoy smoothbore shooting?

The same reason I shoot flintlocks exclusively, the historical challenge and skill required to be proficient with my smoothie of choice, NWTG. If it was easy, everybody would be doin it.
