    Hey Stumpy!!

Here in Oregon I have learned to peek at my guns often. SO far.....No problemo! My cases are lined with egg carton shaped foam.

    Hey Stumpy!!

Thanks for your reply. Sounds to me like it's worth a shot. I keep my .50 in a hard case so it's well protected, but my GPR .54 is too long for the hard case and I use the suede sleeve with fringes that can be bought many places to store it in. Bore butter has kept everything rust free so far...

    kit build finish?

Sure....Birchwood Casey makes a good bluing that can be done easily at home. I wiped mine down with alcohol and placed it in the oven to get it warm (about 180 or so). Then applied the bluing.....Works great!! There is also a bluing pen that can be used to touch up around the nipple after shooting.

If it kicks like a mule while burning your hand and blinding you.....Time to get a new wedge.....or gun.

    Shooting bag questions

When it comes to something like a welt, I would agree with you. Chances are there is not going to be enough leather for cement to work (rubber or contact). My use of rubber cement is mainly for lining purposes such as a holster where there is no chance of the rubber cement being exposed. With...

    Hey Stumpy!!

I have convinced myself to make your Moose Juice and Moose Snot. I have been using bore butter for storage of my rifles by heavily lubing patches and ramming them down the barrel as well as rubbing the outside of the barrel to give a thin coat all over the gun. DO you think the Moose Snot will...

    Shooting bag questions

I would use rubber cement for temporary holds in order to sew.

    Powder volume vs weight

Guess I should have expected this when creating a vs. thread. I will be using Goex as I have a local supplier. 2F is all I use for Rifle and my trapper pistol which is a 50 grain load. I will make 2 horn measures based off my 2 brass measures and go for exact volume. I enjoy shooting targets...

Well, so much for that then.

    Powder volume vs weight

Thanks... I am definately gonna weigh out grains on the scale when sizing my Horn Measure (the one I'm gonna make). I will load 5 charges as you suggest to get an average. I have been considering making my own loads similar to paper cartridge but with a ticking patch inside. Not sure if it will...

    CVA Hawken breech plug question

I have a local guy here that works out of his barn and sells real black powder. Same kind of thing. I think the subject matter determines the atmosphere of the shop. I am thankful to have a shop nearbye as well.

    suggestions for stock finish

tru-oil. Steel wool for the first few coates, then hand rub into the stock for as many as you want after. I think I used 10 coates total. I used BC walnut stain before the tru-oil was applied. Gave a nice and dark finish to the gun after all was completed.

    CVA Hawken breech plug question

I purchase online from The Gun Works, but have never been to the store...Is it worth the drive from Portland?

    Powder volume vs weight

I have read that BP was measured by volume. Perhaps that is what confused me. Not a big deal to me as I use a 80 grain measure. I am new to the idea of 80 grains weight. After reading these responses, I will simply weigh out 80 grains and pour it into an oversized horn tip and mark it for...

    Powder volume vs weight

I have always used purchased powder measures made of brass and loaded on the line. I recenly purchased a nice digital grain scale for checking ball weight while casting. 1. If I want to make a measure out of horn or pre-load quickloaders, can I go by weight rather than volume or is their too...
