    Lube with news paper wadding?

Ok I tried a couple, think this what they should look like, 4.5"x 1.75" piece of copier paper, makes a 2 layer tube, folded over the ends. Now I still use the newspaper wadding (going to lube the over powder) over the powder and the "shot cup"?

    Lube with news paper wadding?

What is the benefit to using the little shot packs over just pouring it down the bore? I plan on turkey hunting black powder this year and if I get off two shots it will be a lot, I don't need rapid reloads, just enough shot in the right spot to have a happy thanksgiving

    Lube with news paper wadding?

New to black powder, tried out a black powder shotgun today using news paper wadding (as suggested here) over powder and over shot, 2 4"squares over the powder, shot then 1 4" square over shot. At 25 yards with #6 shot, I got patterns that will take any turkey that gets in range. I would...

    Stock repair question

I use thinned epoxy for repairs like this. "super glue" type glues tend to be brittle and don't stand up well to repeated shock loads. I mix up a little 30 min epoxy, thin with a few drops of rubbing alcohol, and apply with the tip of an exacto knife or similer. Apply a little alcohol to the...

    Horn version 1.0

I got bit really hard after shooting a muzzleloader for the first time a few weeks ago, figured I needed a horn to to go with the rifle I made (soon to followed by appropriate attire and other essentials I'm sure). Not sure how "pc" it may be, but this is what I came up with. The tip was...

    Shaping buffalo horn?

I was given a buffalo horn I would like to make into a powder horn, problem is the horn is very solid at the tip, about 4+ inches back, and has quite a compound curve. I have read the posts about heating the horn to round out the top for the plug. Can the same method be used to straighten the...

First BP T/C Hawken .50 kit

That was 60 grains of ff Goex, seemed to work out well. Hoping to get more range time in the next few days to try a few variations. Thinking about trying hunting with it.

    Flash hole

Actually, being a master carpenter and modern gunsmith, I think I'm pretty up to the task. This is not my first rifle, just first flintlock. But this thread was not about my qualifications. Thanks for the helpful replies, I pretty much got it figured out. I just need to decide between a lined...

    Horn supplier?

Where do you get raw horns to make a powder horn? I tried an online craft supply place, bad. Guess I need to get it from someplace that understands what a powder horn is.

    Flash hole

Ok, I built a T/C Hawkin kit, fired it last weekend for the first time. Can you say HOOKED. I have studied all the resources on line about making a flint lock (want to do a New England Rifle), but haven't found a reference as to where the flash hole should be located. I am guessing you need to...

    Any tinsmiths?

I have never done a tin pot, but for copper, local heat (we use a big "soldering iron" and heat sinks (wet paper towel) over the areas you don't want to unsolder.
