Welds and their affect on steel finishes

I have done what you are describing with a tig welder and coat hanger. Mine turned out fine with LMF browning. I worked on progressive dies when I did the repair on the butt plate and tig welded every day. I am not sure what your level of proficiency is but I would not hesitate to do it again. Mike

    Tip Curtis

I’m very sorry to hear this. I live close to the shop and visited often. Mr. Curtis treated me very well and I truly enjoyed the conversations we had through the years. I will miss him.

    Replacing my barrel

My mountain rifle had a USA made barrel. Are these replacement barrels Spanish made?

    what to do?

A year and a half??? I have been working on a .54 flint lock for seven years. I have another rifle to deer hunt with so I am in no hurry. I have began gathering parts for a rifled .62 that I would really love to get started on but I know if I do the .54 will get pushed farther back. Enjoy the...

    A Perfect Sunday Afternoon

Where did you find that hawk? I would like to have one just like that. Great hunt. Mike New.

How do you keep box call quiet???

I stick a small piece of Styrofoam coffee cup under the lid of my Lynch World Champion. Some times those accidental squawks sound better than my real callin. Mike

    Donaldson Tomahawks.

I see on the web site that the edge on the hawks is case hardened. Am I mistaken in my thinking that after a few sharpening's get down into the soft material that the edge will have to be case hardened again? I really like the polled hawks. Mike

    Tip Curtis Rifles

I have to be careful of how much money I take with me when I visit Mr. Curtis. I bet suppliers have a name for men like me with glassed over eyes and callused hands with cash they will gladly hand over for locks, barrels or wood. Good topic!! Mike N.

drawing the line of what you like

Guns? If your happy with yours I'm happy with yours. "Fat" Women? I do not mind a woman with curves. If a lady cares about what she looks like and works at it a little she is a pretty woman. Clowns? Hmmmm, never gave it any thought. MNew Interesting! Clowns are scary to me also, or more...

    Tip Curtis Rifles

I live about forty minutes away from Mr. Curtis. I have been to his shop many times. He knows what works and why. He doesn't know me from Adam but he all ways talks to me like he has known me all our lives. I wish I could go and spend $1000 a week. Mike N.

    .32 Cal. load

My .32 green mountain (42 inch)squirrel rifle likes .315 RB 20 grains 3f and a greased (or spit if plinking) .015 patch. I have not tried a bigger RB. I shot about 100 .310 and got acceptable groups but when I went to .315 it was like flipping a switch. Mike

    Log Cabin Shop

I stopped at the Log Cabin Shop many years ago on my way to Niagara Falls. I remember thinkin then that I didn't bring enough money. I live very close (40 minutes away) to Tip Curtis. I learned long ago to only take what I can afford to spend. Lookin gets expensive!!!

    Altoids Tin Patch box

I use the small Altoids tin for my squirrel rifle. In my .50 bag I use a shoe polish tin with the little flipper that helps open the lid. Mike

    I'm about done.

I built myself a .50 poor boy rifle about 20 years ago with a barrel of questionable ancestry. I have been trying to get this thing to shoot for about 19 years. I got tired of fighting it and recently bought a green mountain for a rebarrel job. The only advice I can offer is don't fight it for...

    Opinions on Tip Curtis gun?

I am very fortunate that I live only about 45 minutes from Mr. Curtis' shop. Anything that is found in the catalogs can be held in hand and compared with similar parts. I have not purchased a gun from him but would not hesitate to do so. I never order when I can go and buy from Mr. Curtis. Mike New
