    Nipple Removal

    hope you got nipple out already, if not I had an old 1850's percussion barrel I needed to de-breech, I used a very tiny bit of muriatic acid around the threads. No damage was done to either the breechplug or barrel.took 5 mins.....hope this helps........ der mike

    Engraving layout

    there is an artist spray thats like hairspray that leaves a clear coating on the part that is rough enough to take the pencil markings. can't remember it's name,,,try artist suppliers. we use it to seal charcoal and pencil drawings to prevent smudges der mike

    Repair / Touch-up remedies ?

    I have made good use of a burnisher to gently push the wood around the lock back into the gap. Both without the lock in place and with it.

    are you looking for rifle or pistol barrel stock? as for barrels on my non-firing replicas of derringers , I use hex shaped cold chisels from the swapmeet,annealed in the fireplace, then drilled in the lathe. P.S. don't bore to breech

    derringer so far,,,,DONE

    thanks guys for all the suggestions,,living in Southern Calif. I don't have many local gunsmiths, and finding ML's at yard sales,,,,wouldn't that be heaven. I do have some Spanish derringer barrels that need to be slimmed down..I'll continue looking here and there....mike
