    Unclogging a Lee bottom pour

Or, you can plug it permanently and convert to ladle pouring. Lots of disagreement about casting with a ladle, but it has worked for me for > 50 yrs.

    replacement cartridge for dis-charger

You can buy CO2 cartridges inexpensively and in bulk from your local bike shop. Be sure to take your discharger with you to test whether the bike shop cartridges fit.

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

No more candy corn for me, but I did play with my Green River Forge NW Trade Gun today. Here's the link, https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/range-test-of-my-grf-20ga-sb-with-a-572-rb.187091/#post-2733323. Maybe there's something that will be useful to other smoothbore shooters...

Range Test of My GRF 20ga. SB with a .572" RB

I agree, they may be smoothies with no rear sight, not bench guns, but that doesn't mean we can't monkey with them in order to improve accuracy. Indeed, that's part of the challenge/fun!

Range Test of My GRF 20ga. SB with a .572" RB

I've been experimenting with my Green River Forge 20ga. NW Trade Gun with no rear sight (.618" - .619" bore as best as I can determine). Generally, I use a patched RB between .597" and .604" (Lyman mould, which casts .600" - .604"). I even had Tanner Ball Moulds make me one to fit the bore...

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

"It's not the arrow...." Guys, I 've been shooting BP arms since 1970 and cartridge arms since the mid 1960's, and I've got to say accuracy (or its absence) is rarely due to the firearm.* However, it is fun regardless of how well/poorly we do, but just think of how creative we are when trying...

    cheek slapper

Permit me to add my $0.02. To wit, I have a T/C Renegade SB whose stock doesn't fit me and is quite a cheek bruiser. One day, I got the idea to make a pattern of the rear stock (brown paper bag), the use it to lay out some synthetic fleece that I had on hand. I then sewed that to the rear...

    Loading from the pouch?

When I participated in local woods walks, I found it helpful to make a list of all the things I actually needed for a "bag shoot" (slightly different for FL's v. cap locks).* I printed it out and checked off the needed items as I filled the bag for the next day's shoot. Also, if you're not...

October 30 is National Candy Corn Day!

Even though I don't really like Candy Corn, I bit the bullet in a manner of speaking and shot at three of those devilsome targets. Two are shown here, the third is too embarrassing to display in public. I shot my .54cal. Chambers I. Haines from a position of semi-rest this AM, i.e., kneeling...

Who sells a .590 round ball mold?

Try Tanner Ball Moulds in the UK. Make sure you tell them the exact diameter you want and the alloy (pure lead I assume) you'll be using. They're very reasonable, relatively fast, and of high quality.

September 2 Is World Coconut Day!

I managed to shake 2 coconuts loose earlier today using my .45cal Euroarms Remington NMA. This was as much a test of a new front sight that I installed as my aim. As the particulars are hard to see on the targets, I'll mention them below: 15 yds. offhand, 2 hand hold; Graf's FFg, 30gr. Over...

Shot the old Lyman 54 some yesterday

That's an awfully heavy load, jb. No wonder you can't get more than 2 shots without swabbing your bore. I think I'd drop down to 100gr. FFg and try a wet lube, e.g., spit, "moose milk," etc. If wet patch lube isn't your preference, Google "Stumpy's Moose Snot," which is easy to concoct and is...

New **** Miller Rifle, Sighting In

Just to add, Sam Fadala mentioned the 13 yd. sighting in regimen in some of his ML writing. However, it does presuppose a certain velocity/powder charge for it to be effective.

Temp rear sight for my NWTG

Let me add my $0.02. A rear sight on a SB does make aiming faster and more precise, but you can do as well, if not as quickly, with a good load and consistent cheek weld. Btw, I made one from a piece of [very old] brass O Scale rail that I Crazy Glued to the bbl. of my NW Trade Gun (Green...

    Permadex Anti-Sieze

Get some white lithium grease and apply it to nipple threads, the back end of the cylinder, and the arbor. No problems ever with stuck nipples and much less messy than anti-seize mixtures.

    Roundballs verses Conicals..??

Those conicals look like Lee Precision's REAL's, i.e., Rifling Engraved At Loading and are better suited to rifles with twists of 1:48" and faster. They also are a bit more accurate with a card stock over powder wad.

Treso was always a good choice, but Slix Shots (Badman Enterprises) are available and work great.

September 2 Is World Coconut Day!

Knew I forgot something: I shot those targets kneeling with my right elbow on the bench. (I was tempted to shoot them with a front and rear bag though.)
