    I'm not happy with Lyman

The Lyman rod was pre assembled. I didn't expect to have to disassemblele it just to re assemble it correctly. I think Lyman could save a lot of aggravationon by simply pinning the rod, or removing that brass brush reference from their instructions. BTW: This is the first time I've ever used a...

    I'm not happy with Lyman

I have a Traditions St Louis Hawken and a Traditions Trapper pistol. Both of them have factory pinned ram rods.

    I'm not happy with Lyman

For all those slamming me for using a brass brush, I refer you to Lyman's own directions: Lyman GPR On page 1, look under Directions: Item B and I quote The brush wasn't the issue, the lack of physicalal attachment of the ram rod tip was the issue. The tip popped off with less than 5 pounds...

    I'm not happy with Lyman

The ram rod end did not pull off because of the brush, it pulled off because the turned end of the rod was to small to hold on to the ram rod end. It took almost no pull at all to pull it off. And my Traditions St. Lous Hawken came with a synthetic rod that was cross pinned from the factory.

    I'm not happy with Lyman

Believe me, I'm going to epoxy the ends on and pin them in place. I just might order a synthetic rod.

    I'm not happy with Lyman

All good advise. But I already took the gorilla method being that I'm not always that smart. I clamped the barrel in my vice and pulled the breach plug off the back of the barrel. The tip of the brush was sitting about 1/4 inch outside the barrel after that. Easy to just grab with pliers and...

    I'm not happy with Lyman

I purchased a GPR kit from Lyman, and assembled it. The assembly was ok, it did taked about 12 hours of work getting the stock in order, but that was to be expected. What wasn't expected tho was running a brass brush down the bore and having the end pull right off of the ram rod. It took almost...

    Cheap powder measures

Nice measures. Once my rifle tells me what it wants to be fed, I might take a nod from yours and make a permanent one.

    Cheap powder measures

I used 3f Pyrodex P and my brass adjustable measure to set the case limits. I used my belt sander to shorten the cases to match the appropriate amounts. the 30-06 case was fire formed in my Garand, then cut off just proud of the shoulder then sanded in. Perhaps the difference is in it not being...

    Cheap powder measures

Unfortunately, I do not have those cases in my brass supply. I figure with the range I have, I can do about any configuration of loads fairly easy. I don't plan to go over 70 grains at the moment. Soldering the copper wire to the brass was super easy anyway. I just used a plumbers torch o heat...

That would be the chart I was refering to.

    Cheap powder measures

I was reading thru the charts sub forum and found the casing size to volume chart. I decided to try and go one better and build a custom set of measures. 9mm trimmed to 15 grains 45ACP trimmed to 30 grains 45 Colt trimmed to 40 grains 243 Win trimmed to 50 grains 30-06 trimmed to 70 grains...

    Volume or weight?

Not here. We are limited too 1 pound of black powder maximum. Total BS if you ask me. I'm going to go get a pound of Goex FF this weekend.

    Volume or weight?

I took a couple shell casings and the chart from one of the other sub forums here and made a couple measures. One at 50 grains, and one at 65. I double checked them using my brass measure, and they seem to juive just fine. My 30-06 casing came in at 65 grains, and I trimmed down the 243...

    Volume or weight?

Thank you gentlemen. I knew something wasn't quite right. As a reloader, when I think grains, I always think weight.

    Caps getting stuck in Hammer

My Traditions 50 Hawkens has been doing the same thing. I've just been flicking them out with a small screw driver that I keep on my shooting bench. If it starts to bother me, then I might try polishing the hammer and see if that fixes it.

    Volume or weight?

I want to use up some of my Pyrodex P in my Hawkens 50 rather than buy more American Pioneer. I have 2 cans of Pyrodex P, and I'm nearing my legal limit for powder stores. I saved the tubes from my last run of AP to reload, and I've noticed that 65 grains, by weight, of Pyrodex P fills the tube...

    How low can you go?

40 rounds later, and a full day at the range, and I'm a happy camper  I wound up running the .490 balls with the .015 patches, and they seemed to fit perfectly to me. Not loose enough to move if tapped barrel down, but loose enough that I didn't have to fight to get them to seat. I...

    How low can you go?

I've actually had poor performance from 3f AP in the past. I would open a brand new can and use a set load in my 44 Navy. I'd shoot 50-100 rounds just fine. A month later, that same load, from the same canister, wouldn't even get the balls to the target. I actually watched one ball fall to the...

    How low can you go?

I'm thinking about making the 70 mile drive to Manteca.
