Good to see more guys from Canada, and better yet, Alberta.

    cold steel tomahawks

I have modified both a Riflemans and a Trail hawk from cold steel to make them look more traditional. I quite like both. The Riflemans is a bit heavy for hiking with, which is why I got the trail hawk. The trail hawk also throws pretty good.

    Hey from Alberta, Canada

Welcome to the forum from Bow Island, Alberta. I just started myself a little over a year ago.

    Lyman touch hole liners ?

I bought a Lyman 54 cal. GPR a couple of years ago and have not drilled out the stock touch hole. It fires everytime (well almost, it is a flintlock). I bought an extra vent liner in case I wanted to drill one out and see if makes a difference but haven't done it yet due to the fact my rifle...

    Let's see your Tomahawks

Heres a couple modified Cold Steel hawks and a R.E. Davis pipe hawk kit. They aren't fancy but work for me.

Let's see your patch knives and technique

I use a medium sized french trade knife from Track of the Wolf. It is big enough to wear on a belt or small enough to fit in my shooting bag if needed.

    Bag axes

I know the Cold Steel trail hawk and rifleman's hawk aren't hand forged historically correct axes but with a little work they look pretty darn near HC. They even have a pipehawk design now too. The top one is the Riflemans Hawk. I also have a trail hawk done the same way and the bottom is a kit...

    New to Muzzleloading

I would like to go to a some Rendezvous this year, but first I need to get some more accurate clothing items and get more used to shooting my rifle. I shot about 100 rounds through it last fall after I got it, but still need more practice. Don't know how many old fashioned Rendezvous there...

    New to Muzzleloading

Here is a picture of my stuff right now. I know it isn't all completely historically accurate. I made everything except the rifle, hat and shirt.

    Horse hair brush

I made this from a bit of one of my horse's tails. It works good. I folded the hair over to double it up and make a loop at the end that you can attach to a string. I wrapped some thread and glued it to hold it all together.

    Looking for the first rifle

I just got a 54 cal Lyman GPR in October and I really like it. I have only shot about 100 rounds through it. It has very rarely not fired the 1st time. It has fired far more reliably than a lot of the percussion guns that other guys were shooting at the range. I was even using the flints...

    Smoking Hawk

I got the English pattern in the 4140 steel. I had to drill a small hole to finish the pipe and I filed in some grooves on the head and heat treated it. I also did some pewter casting for the mouth piece on the end and inlayed a couple silver diamond shapes in the handle. I have smoked it a...

    Smoking Hawk

There are some good usable pipe hawks out there. I bought one as a kit in a good high carbon steel from http://www.redaviscompany.com/edgedweapons.html It turned out very well, but I ended up making it too fancy and nice that I don't want to use it as a camp axe though. If you want...

    GPR lock removal?

It should just pop off. I have not had any trouble with my GPR. I just remove the screw from the left side of the rifle and the whole lock plate assembly just pulls off. I know it isn't much help for me to just tell you that mine works and yours doesn't. Good luck.

    patch lube container

Is your pillow ticking coming out of the leather bag already lubed? Does the leather bag leak at all or is it not that wet?

    patch lube container

Thanks. I didn't think of using a small glass or tin bottle. I will have to start looking around for some. I have lots of different leather to cover them with.

    patch lube container

Just wondering what you guys are using to hold your 'moose milk' or other patch lube in that is traditional looking. I don't want to carry around a plastic squirt bottle. I was thinking of a cheap wineskin water bag (just have to mark it so I don't end up drinking from it) Any other ideas?

    Black Powder Substitute in flintlocks

After phoning around I found some from the local Black Powder Club. The order in bulk every once in a while and everybody stocks up then. They have BP in Edmonton, Caroline, Calgary, etc but it is around the $30/lb. So it looks like I will have to think ahead and make sure to stock up before...
