    Got a ball stuck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll work on it this weekend and let you all know how it goes.

    Got a ball stuck.

Hey Folks, I had little accident while hunting and filled my .58 Mississippi rifle full of mud. I dug out as much mud as I could, but I can't seem to get the ball puller to screw into the Miniball that is stuck in there. I keep getting mud and a thread or two full of lead. How can I safely...

Minie ball fell out of .58 Mississippi rifle

Hey Guys, Last fall, you guys were a tremendous help in helping me figure out why Minie balls got stuck in my Mississippi rifle. Well, after a good cleaning in the way you recommended, I now have the opposite problem. When I load up, the Minie ball almost drops to the bottom of the barrel. I...

    What Game/Critters to Members Hunt?

Without a doubt, my favorite thing to hunt is Bambi's Grandpa! Since I bought the my .58 Mississippi rifle, I think I have only picked up a smokeless gun two or three times for deer and those were rainy days when I didn't want to get the Mississippi wet. There's something about having to wait...

    Traditional Hunting seasons

:imo: Illinois doesn't need a muzzleloader only season as bad as some states. Since you can't hunt with a rifle in Illinois, (can only used a shotgun with a rifled slug or a handgun), the playing field is pretty much even. I dare say I can hit anything with my Mississippi rifle that anyone...

    1770 Lancaster .54,... its a done deal

Very nice work! Makes me want to build one! I'm thinking of starting with a double barrel shotgun though. Hat's off to ya'! BP Newbie

    Damascus twist barrel question

Never mind, I found it. The search works much better when you search for William instead of Bill. Thanks!

    Damascus twist barrel question

And where might I find Bill Brockway's book? A quick search on the net reveals nothing.

    OLN Muzzleloaders

Hey Guys... and Gals, Do we need to make our own show? How 'bout "Building a Flinter" with BP Newbie. Yes, folks, you too can learn how to blow yourself up by building a black powder shotgun without any help from anyone else. Seriously, I think it would be really cool to do a show on...

    why i hunt squirrels

Squirrels were the first things I ever hunted... unless you include rats that used to get in the corn crib. My dad used to take me out in the woods with an empty single shot .410 and when we saw a squirrel in range, he would hand me a shell. He taught me two things on our little hunting...

    why i hunt squirrels

Poor little defenseless squirrel! Why, they do so much good for the environment. They are the original tree hugger! :haha: They are so cute, I don't know how you can shoot them...... Oh, wait, yes, I do. It's because they yummy for your tummy. I used to squirrel hunt all the time...

Where to buy real BP in Birmingham, AL

I shoot a Mississippi rifle and kind of like the idea of sticking with real BP. I went to my favorite hunting store in B'ham and all they have is Pyrodex. I've never shot anything through it but real BP and I really don't want to change now. Call me an old fogey, but that rifle is darn...

    How do u scrape?

I haven't used Woodcraft scrapers to smooth gun stocks out yet, but they do a great job on cabinets. They create an edge as smooth as a baby's bottom. My other hobby is woodworking and I have built a fair amount of furniture. The Woodcraft scrapers work well and you can get them in all kinds...

    Grizz hunting.

If that grizz ain't dead after unleashing three guns on him at once, he deserves a good meal! :m2c:

    Damascus twist barrel question

Pardon my asking what is probably a juvenile question for you accomplished gun builders, but I have never built one before and so I am entitled to a few, shall we say, newbie kind of questions. I saw the barrel off of an old Damascus twist shotgun that breaks in the middle for sale on eBay...

    Grizz hunting.

How about everybody shoot the bear all at one time. The bear will fall over... and if it doesn't, it can't see you because of all the smoke! :haha: That way everyone can take credit for killing the bear and you can draw straws for who gets to fill their tag. My two cents.

    Winter Projects

Deer season is in 'till the end of January, so I am going to try to make it out one last time. Turkey comes in March 15th, so I don't have too long to wait until I can shoot somethin' I can eat. I guess I'll practice on coyotes 'till then. I hear they taste like chicken :haha: Actually...

    Grizz hunting.

Count me in! If I could afford it, I'd be there with you. I would take my .58 Mississippi rifle and the biggest Minie's I could find. Call me crazy, but I always wanted to grizzly hunt with a bow. If Fred Bear can do it, so can I! Doin' it with the Mississippi rifle would be the next best...

    .50 or .54?

Congratulations on the new .54. You'll love it. Pope Co. got a lot of deer, so you should have plenty to practice on! We run into them all the time at the trail ride. We also ran into a few turkeys up there. Have fun!
