fixing loose barrel pin

Would it be possible to put a slight bend in the pin? Causing some misalignment but friction to keep it in place. Or a drop of BLO to act as " temporary glue"

    Trigger and guard placement

Here's my 2cents, cut off the extra on both ends of the trigger plate. I'd cut off the front lug on the TG and move it, silver solder it back on. A screw too far from there could run into the ramrod. Happy building!

    Proud of this one.

I was asked in a PM what the finish was. My previous builds were all BLO and I wanted to try something new on this one. I used the two part Permalyn finish, 2 coats of the sealer and 2 of the finish. Came out a little bit shiny so rubbed it down with 0000 steel wool and I like it.

    Proud of this one.

The lid is one piece of wood. Came off of the stock below the wrist area , I was pleased with how the stripes lined up. You know, hope for the best and sometimes you get lucky.

    Proud of this one.

I've added some progress photos to the photobucket album. They are out of order as far as time line but I'll work on that. I've been waiting for a decent day to get the thing on a bench. Sent about 10 rounds down range off hand just to see how it fired. Probably will open up the touch hole to...

    Proud of this one.

This is done by Ed. It's an extra service when you order the barrel. Around $25, you can push the ball right down with finger and it's ready to cut the patch or if you use precut patches, ready to shove home with ramrod...

haveing trouble with the pictures, sorry.

    Proud of this one.

Just completed my 4th rifle, pretty happy with how it came out. Need to spend more time on the finish, I get too anxious to get it done. Ed Rayl's Christian Springs barrel, 50 cal, relieved muzzle, it's a breeze to load. Dale Johnson lock, White Lightning touch hole liner Brass and plans are...

    Flint Knapping Frequency

Does anyone else have issues with his process? Our club rules do not allow blowing down the barrel and I'm not sure what the benefit is. Is it suppose to clear the touch hole?.. Personally, if I pick the touch hole, it's after I load and right before I prime. I usually don't pick unless I have...

    Setting the price

You might consider shipping it out to TOW, they will make you a cash offer, or state a price that they would list it for sale on their site. If you are happy then you just wait for it to sell. If you don't agree with them, they will ship it back with a printed opinion (similar to what they write...

    Tennesse rifle

Thank-You for the kind words! I did get a chance to send some lead down range yesterday, she worked flawless! Not one hiccup. Siler Lock, white lightning touch hole (drilled out a bit) worked great. The stock is from a piece of spalted curly maple (not a lot of curl, really very little curl but...

    Tennesse rifle

40 Cal. Green Mtn. Barrel, Large Deluxe Siler Lock, Davis Dbl. triggers. Hardware and plan from Track. This is my 3rd rifle from scratch, and it has several "firsts" on it; poured nose cap, metal patch box and aqua fortis stain. [/img] [/img] [/img]

    Second rifle build completed

Just got home from Friendship, took the lock over to the L&R booth, told them (Tim) about my problems and he put on a new frizzen spring. He also gave me a few tips on flint size and position to strike the frizzen. They were very helpful and the lock is performing very well now, flints are...

    Second rifle build completed

The plan and most of the hardware was from Track of the Wolf, for the Fullstock Hawken . I bought the barrel from Rice Barrel Co. I made the pipes, toe plate and side plate. I've only heard good things about their pre carved stocks but mine was not pre carved. For me one of the hardest parts was...

    Second rifle build completed

Thanks, all for the comments. I took it on a woods walk today and did not do so well. The L&R lock needs some work. The frizzen did not fly open all the way (some of the time) I tried a couple different flint sizes and oiled the roller on the frizzen spring but still not working right. I need to...
