    Mainspring

I have a swivelbreech with an old Leonard Day action that I would like to start shooting again. But, it has a broken mainspring. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement or how to get in touch with Leonard?

    What type of powder?

It really doesn't matter what we like to shoot. You should try different types and different loads of 2 & 3 Fg, and different patches, etc. The trick is to see what your gun likes.

    Black Powder Turkeys

One of the best turkey hunters I have ever met is Zoe Caywood (Charley Caywoods wife). Recently she just compleated her 'World Slam' using smoothbore flinter. Thats all six species of turkeys on the planet. Check out Caywoods website.

    Good Stuff

It's easy for your tackle box to get out of hand. After you have been shooting NSSA for awhile you find yourself shooting; rifled musket, carbine, smoothbore, and revolver. At many of the matches there is a good distance between your vehicle and the range. Suddenly your tackle box is 4X as large...

    Shooting Cast Balls

That must be a real drag. I'm having the usual trouble of seeing the sights from getting older. I don't want to think about something keeping me from shooting. I honestly have never heard of Karatitus. What is it?

    Shooting Cast Balls

50 yards at a plate size target is pretty easy with a smoothbore. Several of NMLRA smoothbore matches are at 100 yards. How do you fare out there?

    Side lock vrs flintlock

Thats interesting. Guess I don't hang around many of the inline crowd. When we used to say "side lock", we were refering to a "slapper" or more commonly a "mule ear" lock. I can see how it could be used for both.

    Shooting Cast Balls

You can cast balls you think are perfect, but they will still have air pockets in them. Don't think that swaged balls (Hornady & Speer) don't have voids in them eithor. If you want a suprise, take an old knife and carefully hammer it through the middle of a handfull of balls. Thats why swagged...

    ML Care

Try Ballistol. No petro chemicals, all natural. Cleans, oils, and is the best patch lube around. Will not hurt stocks, is actually good for wood and leather. Bore butter (if I remember correctly) is mainly olive oil. Probably best used on salads.

    Favorite Muzzleloader movies

Remember, the vast majority of people that watch movies know little about historical authenticity...or even care. In general the movies are made for them, not us. I was an extra in the movie Last of the Mohicans. One thing I will always remember is hearing the director, Michael Mann, his daily...

    Patching materials

You do have to crank the mic down pretty good. tg is right. It doesn't matter if your measurements differ from someone elses, just make sure they are consistant for you. And don't be afraid of telling them what you are doing at the store. I found that in about 10 minutes I was knee deep in bolts...
